Adding a Cat to Help with Stink
I've read a few threads on the issue of stinking like exhaust but haven't come across a good solution yet. The car is stock except for the racing beat header and presilencer. I can't remember if or how bad it stunk before I put those on 3 years ago when I ditched the cats and manifold. The car runs really good and I don't think it is running rich, although the exhaust smells like it. I average 23 miles per gallon, with a good portion being highway but often spirited drives as well.
So my question is: Has anyone ever added a catalytic converter after a collected header? I was thinking about taking out the presilencer and putting a cat in it's place. Does anyone have any opinions on how this might effect exhaust smell? Would the exhaust still be hot enough after the collector to get the cat up to temp? Any and all input is appreciated!

The question is how long will the cat survive the heat from the exhaust and will it have enough
oxygen to burn off the unburnt fuel. You may have to put an air pump back in place to make it
work well.

Awesome! That's just the sort of info I'm looking for. I hadn't thought about the extra air that might be needed. I did keep my old air pump on the car when I put the header on because without it I was getting some bad belt slippage, although I would have to put the insides of it back together.
Could I just pipe the extra air into the exhaust right before the cat, after the header collector?

Well mine comes out from the exhaust manifold then go that little factory down pipe into a eastern catalytic pre cat then to a eastern catalytic main converter. The main has the spout that goes to the air pump. Not sure how header going to be much hotter than that. It's been on there quite a while. Zero issues. $90 for both on rock auto. Smells pretty nice.

Thanks for that info. I was just looking around in their catalog and Eastern looks like have a lot of variations available. Since your setup is working well for you, would you mind sharing which ones you used? From the price you paid, did you go with the eco II converter, or did the eco III's go up in price? I appreciate any additional info you care to share..... Thanks again!
