1985 GSL-SE Efan

Quick question I’m needing an electric fan that can fit my 1985 RX7 GSLSE and I know their are posts about this but unsure on what to do because I bought a ‘92 Ford Taurus efan which I heard fits but the fan was too wide in between pulleys and radiator to fit. Also I have a koyorad radiator installed on the car so could that be affecting fitment? Would love some input thanks 🙏

This is what I did. I used a Dorman 620-101 and did a few mods to it for fitment. https://www.rx7club.com/1st-gen-gene.../#post12448132

Here is another thread with other suggestions. https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generati.../#post12458597

Yeah that radiator is bit wider than stock and the clearance is always close with the single ford fan cause the motor is in the middle. I used the dual fans from a Mk1 MR2 which fit the stock radiator almost prefectly and the motors have lots of clearance with the keg an accessories on it. Heres an old pic when I had the Dell carb on it but you can see the spaxce it needs.

I installed a 16” Flex a Lite electric fan on my SA. And it cools down the car when it sits idling or in slow traffic.

Thanks for the help 🙏 and yeah was thinking about 1st gen MR2 fans but couldn’t find any nearby so just ordered a 16” fan that comes with the thermostat wiring kit from Amazon says it’s rated at 3000 cfm (which should be more than plenty) and motor takes 15 amps so I’m assuming going to need an upgraded alternator?

I did not. I used the SA alternators. I could here it draw amperage when I turned it on.

Get an S4 alternator, its plug n play on an SA and give you 80 amps compared to the OEM 55 amp you have.

@t_g_farrell Are you sure? My harness came a bit cut up but I know there is an external regulator. Will the s4 alternator's internal regulator conflict with the external? I removed mine and bypassed it to retain factory gauge operation when I went to an s4 alternator.

My bad, you have a 79. So wiring changes would be needed.

I have a 13b in my ‘80. Koyo Radiator. There is a challenge in finding an electric fan thin enough and powerful enough.

this is a 3500cfm fan from a v6 ford contour/ mercury cougar (the sport compact looking one)

you will want to upgrade the alternator.

as an aside, the shroud is a hair wider than the radiator. It does that some thinking to mount. But it will fit.
