GSL-SE fan shrouds

hi guys,
are there different GSL-SE fan shrouds? i have mine for sale and member "project7s" came by the house to pick it up and he noticed that it would not fit his GSL-SE, that it would of hit the alternator if installed. i've never seen or read about differences before so am kind of confused. luckily he drove by the house and noticed it, i would hate to ship it to someone and it be the wrong shroud. if it makes any difference, his GSL-SE is an 84 while mine is an 85.

here are pics of it installed on my car:

Mine at the top is only about 2 1/2in deep, oh another difference I noticed is mine has a square rubber flap at the bottom that works as a vent for the oil cooler.
I am running the dual belt alt pulley but that wouldn't make a difference with the short shroud

I'd have to see that. If it's a stock 13B and stock rad, I don't see how that could happen. maybe it's a 12A shroud. I have both in the barn. I'll take a look and some pics.

digging through the for sale section, here is another GSL-SE shroud which seems more inline w/ project7s (no idea what year as it didn't list it):

this one is from an 84 5letter:

an 85:

so it seems i may have an odd ball or the previous owner replaced it with one from another model??? i know the shroud bolted right up to the stock radiator and did not need to be modified...

Mazda lists 1 part number for every GSL-SE. i think yours is a 12A one, the difference is that the 13B shroud is shallower because the engine is a little longer.

ok, that makes a little more sense to me.

found these 12a's w/ shrouds that does look more like mine:

but as you can see on my car, there is still plenty of room between the shroud and anything on the engine.

That and I believe that the GSL-SE uses a different fan clutch.

i know that mazdatrix lists the fan clutches for the different 12a's as well as the GSL-SE as different part numbers but how does one tell which one is which? i don't want to mislead as a seller and all i know is that my car is a GSL-SE and that the previous owner changed the radiator but did no mention anything about the shroud or the fan which i would assume to still be stock.

Not shure, my 13b with double sheave alt pulley has inches of clearance with stock 12A fan shroud.

How do we know that your shroud will hit project7s alternator? Did you try it on? Based on all the
pics it looks like it wouldn't matter. Just sayin. I understand wanting to get the right one tho.

project7s came by the house but unfortunately i had to run an errand at that time so could not meet him (i left the shroud outside for him). he mentioned it would hit his alternator and looking at the pic of his car, he's got an aftermarket radiator. i just felt bad because he drove out of his way to pick this up prior to the OGTA meeting. here's a pic of his setup.

His aftermarket radiator is thicker, pushing the deeper 12a shroud too close to the longer 13b engine/alternator. He will need the -SE specific (shorter) shroud for this to fit, and even that might be close.

Yeah, the shroud in the picture of my car is a correct se shroud, I'm needing another one for another one of my cars.
Crazzy I was going down there any ways no reason to feel bad.

Hey...I think that middle one(the pic) is one of my parts cars...Don't ask me how, I'm sure there's hundred of junkers/parts cars that would look almost exactly like that pic, but the instant I saw it, I was sure somehow it was mine?! I haven't seen under it's hood in years. I don't remember ever taking any pics of it or why I would?! Where/how in the world did you come across that pic?

It's from the recent for vehicles sale posts on this forum, specifically GSL-SE models.
