Absolutely. 'Without' looks very rough on an 80!

I'll stick one one the car and take a shot in it's 'natural habitat.'

Ohhh I see now. My handle/arm rest is pretty much the same but it looks a bit more square shaped at the top.

Yes, the 78/79 handle was square-cut and had a matching color plug to cover the screw. The 80 has this hollow chromed plastic trim piece that slides up to cover the screw, and locks in place with a metal clip at the back.

The original ones tend to split with age, due to the spring tension & their thin walls. I'm making these out of much thicker polyurethane plastic, so they'd be less prone to that.

Two days ago I put some air in the tires, charged the battery, called the insurance company to put collision back on it and gave her a bath. Going to drive her for October, at least when it's not raining (wiper motor quit) then put her in the new garage (I FINALLY HAVE A GARAGE!!!!!) to begin tear down/rust repair/paint prep. She will likely be in bits for a year or two since I have CC debt that is first priority but I hope to be able to manage stripping and rust removal with minimal cost. Need to get my hands on a decent MIG.

I shoved a screw in my secondary air valves on the Performer series edelbrock... That is a WORTH while modification to the overgrown carb I have on my car!

Finally unloaded all the stuff from my last autocross event. Starting to think about getting ready for the Blue Ridge Rotary Run in a couple of weeks.

If I have time, I'll have to address that leaky fuel tank issue again. I patched it with JB Weld last year, but it's starting to spill on hard left handers again. I hate to contemplate a trip to NC when I can only fill her up halfway. lol. I'm not sure the gas stations are spaced close enough to accommodate me if that's the case!

These pix are enlarged quite a bit (about 12x), but as you can see, they came out quite shiny but not morror-smooth, even though the underlying plastic was hand-smoothed with 2000-grit sandpaper.

Viewed fullsize they look pretty decent at arm's-length, but up close they actually look rather old or antique. They also cost me $24 each to have plated.

I'd give them a b-minus; I'd use them on my car if I didn't already have (or couldn't find) better.

What do you all think?

Sometime next week, or possibly the following week, I should have the Spectra-chrome treated parts back. I'm still looking for a place that can do actual chrome, too.
I likey a lot. Smoother would be better but I'd take those as well. I'm more than
willing to pony up some bucks for a pair. Mine are on the verge of disintegrating.

Nice work Glenn!

It looks like the tank took a hit at some point and bent the smaller tube next to the fill pipe. That allowed some rust to set in. I patched it up a year or two ago, but obviously it didn't hold.

What I should've done is just remove the small pipe altogether, which would've made for a better/stronger patch. Looks like I get to do it all over again.

I've got an 85 GSL converted to an EV that is on the road now and is my daily driver. I replaced the door seals on that one and worked on the windshield washer. I got the passenger side spraying but the driver side is still blocked. This is what happens when you let the car sit in the garage for 6 years. I also went tire shopping. Not much selection in 185/70R13's these days. I logged on here to see what people are using. On my 85 GSL-SE I took the roof panel mechanism apart and cleaned it up and put it back together. Still a problem with it but at least I can raise the roof now. Before the **** just turned.

I added weatherpack connectors for my ignition coils and got them wired back in and mounted. The PO thought this was good enough, but I tried to clean it up and make it serviceable.

Drove it home from Tulsa to Cleveland. 23mpg solid.

Over 1900 miles in the car this weekend, not including competition time.

Could not pass up on a good deal. Set of Suspension Techniques springs, complete front struts/calipers/rotors for $220. Added them to my parts collection for the bumblebee's future.

I have been doing research on the se stereo and how I can get modern sound out of it. I have the original radio/cassette/equilizer and want to use it. The original owner took it out early and saved it so I have to use it. And it looks to be in excellent shape.

Well everything I have read says modulator, unwired sounds bad, wired sounds like 30 year old fm.
I went to a top audio shop in cincy and the guy tells me there's no other way.

Never take no for an answer. I have an AudioControl LC-6 line converter on my 95 which allows me to use a separate amp and better speakers and keep the stock cdplayer which works very well.
So I looked at AudioContrls newer products and found the LC-8i which does the same thing as the lc6 but also has an auxillary input. Just enough to allow me to use an i-pod or my iphone and get cd quality sound. hopefully

I got pulled over on the freeway. He pulled up next to me then signaled me to pull over. I pull over he says on his mic to move off the road. then when I do, he pulls up beside and behind me then runs across the off ramp takes a picture and says "I just wanted a picture of your badass car in front of my cruiser, have a nice day" I was freaked out too, I guess this is normal for sevens around here, lol.

That'd be a good story for the "You know you're a 1st-gen owner when..." thread!

lol, didnt even think of that. I assume this is going to become a normal experience for me. I am still waiting on my gauges from speedhut and some $$ for a muffler of some sort (probably a fart can to save $$ till I can actually afford a good one). But once I have the exhaust sorted and gauges I will be going out and getting tons of pictures for all to see. I am also nervous as hell since this car will be my DD this winter and even dry roads make it a bit scary with the huge amount of power it puts down with only 245's to grip with.
