First trip to the dragstrip with the new engine, 5 days before leaving for Tulsa. Not cutting it close, or anything.

Actually I was; as I was at the head of the pack and had just said to my wife the guys should get in front of us in case anyone has a issue.

While traveling over 70 mph the left front tire blew out on the truck with the trailer loaded with my SA on the back (the purpose is if any of our guys had an issue we pull my car off load theirs on and keep going). So we had to limp back to vegas and without funds for truck tires in the budget at the moment as we have dealt with back to back to back issues the last couple weeks it was either tires or sevenstock ... (insert all curse words here)

More importantly no one was hurt as this could have some how ended tragically

And thanks to our felllow SCR members as everyone pulled over and swapped the inside rear tire to the front like a dang nascar pit crew
(should note the SLCRotary members travelling with us also stopped)

Gives me another year to get the SA closer to the level of Beastie lol which I know it never will be up there but at least closer

Did some touch up on windshield trim, cleaned the engine bay a little. Then worked on the door leather and steering wheel. Next weekshe gets new front bearings, shocks and struts, springs, and motor mounts. After that reinstall the original stereo with JL amp and speakers via an Audio Control LC-6 converter.

Replaced the old squealing belts with new Gates ones. I've also been working to claybar, polish, and wax the entire car. I might be able to finish that up today.

Wow, Ray, I'm so sorry you had to deal with that. I know too well the misery of "sevenstockus interruptus."

I'm happy to report the beastie handled the 290-mile round trip (and the half-hour crawling wait at the gate to get signed in at Willow Springs) with zero issue beyond a heat-stressed driver... so absent new issues we should be ready for next years WHIV!

Drove all day like a nut case at Sevenstock and then almost get taken out on the way home.

Stupid family in an SUV entered the the freeway, crossed 4 lanes without looking over his shoulder and forced me out of my lane. I was on my horn a good 3 seconds and he still kept coming at me. Then the bastard honks at me like it's my fault for not yielding to his stupidity. I give him the bird and then they have their young daughter stick a camera out the window to take a picture.

If they wanted a picture of my FB so much, then they didn't have to go through all that trouble.

DD I've done soooo much work on it this past year

Beastie doing it's thing is just a testament to the care you give it

I honestly get nervous driving in regular traffic because if head up **** drivers don't see my truck they're liable to just drive over my SA ... glad to hear it ended well

hey if you find yourself heading into town (I understand you do kind of regulary) I really need someone to check out my setup if I would have had it squared away we may have attempted a red eye run and headed back right after the event saving the hotel $ ... that may have made the finances work ... but as it's running would probably have hurt the engine

Be great to have you guys join us for sure

I wandered by 1st-gen row once, but I didn't see you at the time, Mel. I spent a lot of the day under Sarah-7's EZ Up, near my car, hiding from the sun. Went through a lot of liquids, too. Quite warm and dry. Had a great view of the track from there, though - - I was parked all the way the top end of First-Gen Row.

I had an interesting day today - I spent a couple hours in my garage being interviewed by a video production team from Sunpros, out of Tokyo. They'd interviewed me about my car at the show, and asked if they could come see my "garage lifestyle."

Apparently my garage and I are to appear in a future installment of "Video Option" DVD.

VIDEO OPTION OFFICIAL WEB SITE

They promised to send me a copy, too.

It was a full 100 degrees in my garage today, so they got a real taste of the IE 'Garage Lifestyle!' Not to be confused with Gangnam Style.

Mine was the (faded) brown '85 with the (faded) black primer hood.

I was probably one of the slower cars out there. The only cars I managed to pass were those with driving instructors, the occasional other 1st gen, and anyone that had spun-out or gone off track. Keeping her in 3rd gear most of the time certainly hurt my lap times. But I was improving with each session. I was really just concentrating on the driving line, and not being a nuisance to the other drivers.

Overall the car handled well, and came home in one piece. So I call that a win.

This morning I sat in her for a moment remembering back to Saturday on the track.

yesterday I beat the **** out of my car at a pretty nice autoX event, was my first autoX and i didnt do too bad. Unfortunately the amount of runs was limited due to the amount of cars there, so we only got 5 runs through out the day... and i shaved off over 3 seconds on my 5th run as soon as i actually remembered the course

oh, and today i drove my car back home...another 160 miles, with a now completely dead fuel guage and still no operating speedometer/odometer.... but i did somehow manage a conservative highway 22.5mpg with my new overkill injectors, even tho my wideband is showing that im averaging ~13.5:1 cruising, versus when I had stock 460cc injectors, highway a/f of 14.5-15:1 and 18.5 mpg

You've gotta walk that course Sarge! Then walk it again, and again, and again. If you can't sit in your parked car, close your eyes, and imagine every bit of the course clearly in your head, then walk more. After a few years of experience, you might be able to get it down in only a couple of course walks, but most beginners will only see a sea of cones. lol. Glad you had a good time though.

All this talk of 7stock is making me very jealous! However, I think I'm going to hit the Blue Ridge Rotary Run end of this month.

well i missed sevenstock, but i finally got some bolts to hold in my a/c compressor, as there were none for god knows how long....
also filled it up with the magical gold explosive juice, need to pick up a new belt for my a/c on the way home as the old one had too much slack in it. no issues to report, except that i am freaking hot, and my window is still wonky, as i am to scaredy-cat to pull my door panel off.

I wanted to walk the course more, but only got a chance to walk it twice before the mandatory drivers meeting and then we started getting the cars out immediately after the meeting. We had 78 cars pre-register... 140 cars showed up... and the fastest time was 55 seconds posted by a caged, lexan windowed, stripped down EVO on slicks driven by a fella who just won a national event in Lincoln, Nebraska, everyone else had times of 60-70 seconds. We were initially planned on having 8 runs total, but due to the course size and sheer number of racers, it got cut down to 5

Best part of the event was someone who entered/raced his jacked up Dodge RAM 2500 diesel long bed...and he drove it like he was trying to break it
