Also, not calling you dumb, but you are using the starter and not hand cranking it, right?

Just ordered some new plugs, should be here Friday. Hoping that with a new battery and plugs, I should be able to get the car started, and then hopefully timed and driveable.

Gotcha. I'm so used to looking at drums back there. I could see it was still 4 lug but I've read of people going BBK with 4x114.3 before so I figured I'd ask. Maybe this new car will get the small bearing disk LSD rear end I have sitting around at home. Only time will tell.

I'm going to go on RockAuto here and get some parts for the new ride that it needs like:
New slave clutch cylinder
New accelerator pump diaphragm
New fuel filter
Etc, etc

all plugs out? throttle held open? snug in spark plug hole? battery fully charged?

werid to go zero on all 6 faces at the same time

compression testing with a piston tester and the schrader valve removed should look something like this

MsDIY, IIRC, only the lower plugs should be out (for plugging your comp tester into). x2 on what 13x states about making sure the compression tester is screwed in all the way, making a good seal. Open carb helps to allow air in. Low battery will yield lower compression results, so make sure your battery has a full charge.

all plugs out? throttle held open? snug in spark plug hole? battery fully charged?

I only tested the leading port on each rotor.

The rear made a little air puff until I got the tester in better, then a zero reading... Thanks for keeping me trying.

Fully charged battery, tester was hard to seat well, and the o-rings looked scored.

I'll borrow one from the other parts store and try the trailing ports.

ALL PLUGS out??????

sorry, not all plugs ... one each rotor will allow the engine to spin faster, the compression tester such as in the video are the "wrong" style and doesn't yield the most accurate results but in a pinch gives a general reading to help determine if engine is good or not.

It's just strange to be getting a zero reading on both rotor's ... my compression tester uses an adapter, I put the adpater into the housing by hand then screw the tester into it, this reduces the change of boogering the threads on the aluminum housing.

Don't give up

All plugs IN! Except the one you're testing. So three plugs in, and one tester in. Does that make sense?

An engine doesn't just blow for no reason.

Finally got all the grease off the outside of the car from SS (was parked next to huge barbeque, ick).

Sadly, all the brightwork in the engine bay is also grease-spattered. Least I won't run short of things to work on this winter.

Got some rims for my big brake upgrade. They are 17x8 +18. They are a bit bigger than what I was planning on using but I got them at a damn good price.

I am back from my adventure in the 85 GSL-SE. I have to admit that the suspension although stock is stiffer than I would prefer in a GT type car. The foam padding in the seats is probably breaking down and that didn't help. I have added close to 4000 miles to the odometer over the last 15 days. I met and caravaned from Las Vegas with some of the the Sin City Rotary people to Seven Stock. Motored up the 101 to the Bay area and then headed back home. No problems with the car at all.

I am posting my Picassa web album link in the SevenStock thread. Here is a photo of my car at SevenStock 16.

Car needs to be vacuumed out, a wash and an oil change.

Where did you end up getting a BBK?? I've had my WTB ad up for forever and haven't had any bites on it except one guy and he stopped replying to my PM's.

I ordered some parts from RockAuto and some stickers for the car.

Yeah I assume you mean 1point3? He messaged me about that bbk hella long ago too but he never responded. I didn't actually get the bbk, I'm going japanese style and using the second gen spindle up front, and I still have to get my se axles for the rear and mock up some brackets for the back. Was really just waiting on rims so I could do the fronts first anyways.

Yeah, him. I'm thinking of going the FC spindle on the front as well. Not too much to it and seems pretty straightforward. And drilling and mounting the rear end shouldn't be too bad I would think. Just some fab work and making sure everything's square back there. Working on getting a set measured so I can try to make some replicas and make the set available again - we will see though.

Yeah the fc spindle on front looks simple enough so the only part that will stop me is the rear caliper bracket. I'm gonna start the front end some time next week so that I can get these rims out of my way :p

MsDIY, any luck yet? I also have my doubts that both rotors have no compression.

I've been unable to do anything with my FB for the past 3 days. All of the floors are getting redone at my place so everything that could had to go out in the garage, effectively banishing my FB outside. While I'm not terribly concerned someone will steal her, I am concerned they'll take the wheels...real JDM wheels are a hot item around here. That's one of the reasons I sold my EG Civic. Tired of worrying about it getting stolen. Anyway, with any luck, these guys will be done this evening and I can pull her back into the garage. I have plans for her after that. Yes, that's right. Plans. MuhaHAHAHAHAHA!

sleep in the car!

Believe it or not, I DO NOT post every little thing I do for Smooth...on the 9th I cleaned the interior of the car. Finally got full range of motion for trailing timing on rotor (oiled it lightly weeks ago… rust history). Got exhaust is less smelly. Got my drivers door electric mirror installed better. Removed old wire jungle from PO's stereo. Found a disconnected wire plug with broken clip. Connected it… NO help to the heater fan. Unplugged it. I installed the sub zero reservior... This may be the killer act. Though I did not know where to connect the line to the carb, I plugged the electric connection thinking (???) "It's not cold enough to activate it, what could be the harm?" The next day she had a starting issue (first time in a long while). I remembered the start assist connect, disconnected it and she was willing to start.

I do think THIS time period could be the beginning of the demise I am suffering.

MsDIY, so I'm confused...did you get her to start? If not, did you try a second compression test?

Today I pulled my FB back into the garage. She's happier in there.

She still has not started and I have NOT done the second test. I have been working a LOT (unexpectedly). I will post results when I retest, hopefully this weekend.

Thanks
