Saved some weight with a new starter. A few years of learning how to start a choke-less DCOE in the winter finally took its toll.
Instead of the usual "WHHRRR-WHRRRR-WHRRRR" this new starter goes "whzzzzzzzzzzz". Sounds too modern.
It works, but the smaller size and cheap price makes me wonder how long it'll last, not that I'm an expert in electronics.
This was the $33 (+$8 core) AC-Delco one from Rockauto. There's also a $60 AC-Delco starter, the differences listed are that the cheaper one is for cars to 11/1982 with 8 teeth and the expensive one from 12/1982 with 11 teeth.
Product photos for both show a bigger barrel for the armature like my old one.

Went to rockauto and the pictures for the ACDELCO starter don't look like that at all.
Yeah, I thought they sent me the wrong part at first, but the part number on the starter matches, 19135128 336-1274. The sticker could have been placed on the wrong part, but it bolted up and works.
I got two cool things in the mail today. My Rotary Compression Tester came in...
And I got an original, never used FB Distributor from Red Tail Racing in Vancouver BC. It was about $80 less than a reman from RockAuto, PartsGeek, or Epay. I think he has some never-installed Mazda factory motors.
Last week we had some gorgeous weather which finally convinced me to fix that loose screw in the gauge cluster. Went ahead and did a little cleaning at the same time.
Upon disassembly I was surprised to find that not only one screw had backed out, there were two! And on top of that, every single screw on the cluster was loose, some being quite close to fully backing out.
It also seems these LED's I installed a while ago are getting pretty hot. Those metal sections used to be silver; not so much anymore.
It sure is wonderful being able to rev out to 7.5k rpm again. Having to "short shift" at 6.5k wasn't nearly as fun .
I gotta be the most banal person on here. Today I checked the coolant level. Looks like all the head gasket sealers finally sealed because the coolant was full, and it was under pressure having sit for 2 days. So I put in new spark plugs. Rotor 1's plugs were wet. The atkins rebuild with +43K miles started right up!! Is the front rotor most prone to coolant leaks?
Next I cross referenced fuel filters. Autozone and AdvanceAuto had it NLA. But ford festiva, mercury contour, and some other mazda models. Several filters at RockAuto were out of stock.
I'm so banal, that I'd be more at home in a 1970's F-150 forum
Got some brake hardware kits from Atkins Rotary and the fuel lid rubber bump stops.
I'm just waiting today to get in the mail the outside window rubber weatherstrip that goes outside the door and also waiting for the last in existence new rear caliper boot kit from Mazda😎...

I was thinking of those fuel door bump stops just yesterday. My fuel lid rattles intermittently and I had thought I would need to make a new bump stop to fix it. Good to know they're still available.

Yes..Atkins Rotary got them....I don't know if they are factory Mazda or just a remake but they are like original...
Picked it up from winter storage! Drove it quasi-illegally home...the MA RMV system that runs inspections is hostage to some Bitcoin right now so they aren't inspecting vehicles, maybe next week.
So I fixed an exhaust leak (loose bolts from the manifold to the down pipe), changed out the fuel filter. PSA the fuel filters are seemingly scarce and like $12 (Beck Arnley on Amazon) and they are on mfg closeout and many out of stock on Rock Auto. TL;DR you might want to buy a couple.
I also finally installed the Hella headlights with the extremely bright Beamtech LEDs that I bought in January. Thanks for the recommendation, Stu, those things are effing bright and they only drink 1.6 Amps at 12V. Unbelievable. Nice white color, not blue at all. One hiccup though, the high beam on one of the bulbs wasn't working. First I though polarity but the low beam was fine. Fortunately it's a 2mm allen screw to open up the case and voila:
The cold solder joint had popped off and I kludged it back into compliance, guessing correctly that the red wire was indeed the problem and that it goes onto the pad marked "H" :P
Next up is the standard spring stuff: oil change, coolant flush, gonna flush the brake system, clutch.
