Thanks! Its a good angle for the SA. I do like the Brilliant Black color, though it could really use paint. The filter and angle hides a lot of what it needs. Its been a great car overall.

Thanks a lot man. I just bought her like two weeks ago and according to the seller (original family owner), the floor mats are the original 79' rx7 factory mats. I do put some generic ones over these so they don't wear out

As i recall , i had those floor mats in my '77 RX3SP. Can't recall where i got them. May have been a dealer purchase as i was in good with them at that time. I will go through my ancient photos and see what i find. Kevin

SA's did not come from the factory with floor mats. The may have been bought or thrown in when the car was new at the dealership, but they were not even optional equipment.

^^Understood. Just wish someone would market a "retro" mat similar to these...

Not nic-picking, just informing but Mazda used Clarion products. They had a cassette player that was installed below the radio in some cars but no 8 tracks that I know of. Might be a dealer install, more likely the original owner might have added it. By the time the Rx-7 was introduced 8 tracks were well on their way to being completely replaced by cassette tapes. I'd still consider it to be period correct however.

I noticed alot of waffles on this thread. But I have yet to see OEM steelies.. I have a set on mine but, I haven't seen any other cars with them. I have the caps and bands too. Or were these even an option. Did they come from another year?

Actually, these were the "Standard" wheel the Rx7 (supposedly) came with. Tho I believe the chrome rings were an extra. The alloys were a $250 option. It just that the distributors (Mazda in USA was then represented by four of them instead of the One now) loaded every RX7 up with all the goodies (the list was short) when they ordered the cars from the factory. So these are actually fairly rare because most RXs were optioned out with alloys and sunroof'd GS models.
Your lack of body-side-moldings also suggests you have the 4-speed "S" model? It was more likely these also-rare versions came with the steel rims to keep a cheap "price-point" car on the lot, often as a sample to show how much more 'car' one got by adding $1K price for the GS 5speed model...

Thats awesome.. Yes it is a 4-speed car which I thought was odd I remember my 1979 was a 5 speed and it had the waffle wheels. I have to get the engine back in the car then I can start on cleaning up the wheels and brakes etc etc. Also this car only has one working speaker. There are none in the rear and there is no wiring for the rear speakers. I'm not sure the passenger side speaker works or like the rear speakers is even there.

There should be a speaker in each kick panel below the dash. The uber-budget base model in Japan had only one speaker: IN the dash under the "grille" on the dash pad. Maybe (??) the very early US SAs were the same? The only SA model to get rear speakers and the harness was the 79 Limited. Yours won't have these...

Guys, if you look at my thread "Scored, old school literature" you'll see an image for '79 options that clearly states either Cassette or 8 track player was an option. In fact, I believe the deck that 702roadrunner has in his car IS the one shown in the literature. Just an FYI!

Well, I'll be dipped! You are referencing the below page. I stand corrected, that's what is great about this site, you never stop learning new things. The top illustration does indeed look like his same unit. There can't be a whole lot of those that were installed and even fewer that still survive.

So my SA is really a rare bird. I had never seen one with 8 track either before I bought it last year.
