Just SA's
as always Mike, thank you. the interior is that nice because i never use the car. i intend on putting 1000 miles on the car this year. just to keep it in tip top shape. whats the mileage on your LS?
Stu, i've already taken that into consideration. i purchased a new muffler funnel (its what Mazda calls the twin spout that welds onto the muffler) from Mazda and the chrome tips. this helps me maintain originality. i'll post pics of the parts this afternoon. cutting the old one out and welding this one in is going to be tricky.
[QUOTE=mazdaverx713b;9239750]to clear up any possible confusion, to restore the original muffler on my 80 LS, i am using these all new Mazda parts: QUOTE]
Ahhhh - yummy new OEM SA parts - feast your eyes folks - THIS is becoming a rare sight!! Be nice to put some corrosion-protection over that inner piece Mike or it will go the way of the Dodo - again...

Hope your OEM muffler won't fall apart trying to put these on!

to be honest i'm not entirely sure if its bolt on or weld on. i'll have to remove the muffler to be 100% sure. the outer heat shield on the muffler may have to be removed. if its a bolt on affair, then life would be so much eaiser for me, lol
i just went through the parts manual for the 1979-1980 model years as well as the 1984-1985 pars manuals and they both show the funnel to be identical from 79-85 and they also show the funnel to be a bolt on part. the part number for the bolts is: 998330610 and i'm calling my parts guy to add these bolts to my order for the day.

Definitely a bolt-on - - I changed mine a long time ago, years before I switched to the RB muffler. Corrosion can make getting the old bolts out safely a real project, though.
The outer heat shield is welded on, on some springy tabs, as I recall.

I pray that some day before I die that I will trek to Alaska and lay my eyes on Stu's magnificent collection of NOS art and parts. I know of no other curator as passionate, talented, organized and persistent as our man Stu. Unobtainium => treasure.
;D
Unobtainium also => fetish
yer too kind Mike - likewise I must make the SoCal trek (again) to see your complete collection of cars...
So.
Next?
Show us some details of your cars People! Spread the SA Love.
...how 'bout a sampler from my 4 NOS sets of SA alloy rim types? Silver Waffle one of a complete set _with_ new, unused Bridgestone OEM tires. Jeez, maybe I should open a museum...

I'll have to get a shot of my spare, then; original Bridgestone skin on a never-mounted silver waffle. 30 years in the back of the car, still holds pressure. Lettering has permanently embossed itself into the soundproofing.
here are a couple pics of the original spare tire that rests in my LS. its the original tire with **** still attatched. looks to have never been used. does not hold air so well. the sound deadening under the tire also has been stamped with the tire's lettering. i'll post more pics when i bring the car home from storage this weekend.
