I see it now. The source was being blocked from work and...naturally...the iphone hates flash.

Could you post pics of the assembly itself? More curiosity than concern really.

Thanks!

Sure thing.... I'm not at home now, but will take pics and have them up before the weekend.

Any chance on getting a set without the HID ballasts or bulbs? How much for just the headlights with retro-projectors.

not sure why you would want to do this honestly. There are not better bulbs than the philips 4300K OEM bulb, and higher wavelength bulbs are simply wasted light output. We are using optically clear lenses (so you get the slight blue/purple bleed at the cutoff that people try to "recreate" by using higher wavelength bulbs). This optically clear lens combined with the super sharp cutoff causes the blue/purple line at the cutoff, and is seen as a blue/purple flicker from other cars as you drive by; like all high end OEM applications.

The ballast is a ballast... 35w output. Standard. Unless you want to go 55w and really shorten the life of your bulbs as well as cast way too much light on the road. Feel free to PM me if you're really interested in doing something custom, but honestly, you're only making a good thing worse when you alter either of those variables. If its simply the color that other people see, the optically clear lenses will already get you there

BTW the bluer you go, the less light output you get and the worse your night vision gets The human eye does not do well with blue light in low lighting conditions -Heath

That's what I was hoping to see also. They look great, and after the drive home in the rain last night I can't get them too soon. Let's get some more buyers on the list! I want new headlights!

I think I'll have mine shipped as well since I don't want to see Rich in a towel. Not to muddy the info or have tons of misc questions...but what if we have an extra set of lights (housings) you guys could use? Does that make it cheaper? I ask since it was brought up in the original thread.

Technically you are correct but in the 4300 - 6000K range there is not much drop at all in lumens (brightness). At 4300K = 3200 lumens and 6000K = 2900 lumens. So, if someone wanted the more "blue" look, they could get it with a 5000 - 6000K bulb without sacrificing light output. In fact anything in the 4300 - 6000 range will be about 3X brighter than standard stock bulbs so I doubt anyone upgrading to your kit would even notice the difference and they could have that blue look they want.

Personally I am a 4300K person and have these on my Range Rover. They do make a beautiful white light and the optics does help to make them bluish at the line. But other high end manufacturers (ie Mercedes, BMW) use higher kelvin rated bulbs with much success.

Just a thought for you that could help you sell more kits.

I want to do this because I already have bulbs and ballasts. I know the story on colors and I do run 4300k.

My question remains the same: Can I get these without ballasts and bulbs?

David Hayes: What will we do with you LOL. Not to turn this into a discussion thread, but that's a 10% reduction in output. That's quite significant (I think). Also, in low light levels, our eyes perceive bluer wavelengths of light to be BRIGHTER than they actually are. That sounds great (and who knows maybe the 10% bulb dimming is negated by the perceptual increase due to the blue light) but since our eyes perceive the blue light as brighter our pupils close accordingly (as if there was more available light then there actually is). This decreases your night vision, exactly what you don't want when driving at night. Why do you think the interior lights in airplanes are red? Same with the amber lights in the FD, BMW, red in merc. i believe, etc. Bluer lights make your pupils close in low light levels, and make your night vision worse.... so it's not just about 10% less output, but how your eyes react to the bluer light.

I think you should make David a sleepy eye set and then we only need two more slots.

I spent the night driving around and I really need these lights...Especially with fog and rain.

Can't wait....

I'm right there with you Damari. Figured if I bugged them enough they'd make the set for me

Seriously though, these are the best output HID options I have seen for the FD. They have great cutoff and will most certainly blow away those of you that haven't experienced HID lighting.

If our ballast went bad and were out of warranty, would any other ballast plug and play?

Almost plug/play.... There is a black and red power wire for the ballast, youll just have to cut off the connector and solder or crimp your new ones on. So, not really plug and play, but crimp and play yes

Good enough for me. So I can use any ballast out there then huh? Any OEM unit? I have HID and I'm still asking questions LOL! Also, since I'm in the bay area, would I be able to pick it up when it's done?

Very good deal. The only other stock retro Bi-xenon set for the FD is over 1000 shipped. When I get some more funds together you can count me in, I've been waiting for this for a while! I was just about to build a kit myself.

Jeff, you can pretty much use any HID ballasts as far as I know as long as you have the connectors for them. We don't mind answering question I'm sure you and Heath can work out picking up the kit to save a few $$ in shipping.

Yup more than happy to meet up with you to pickup the headlights ... and like Dan said, yeah they can be replaced with any 35w, but honestly these are really nice ballasts (both the aftermarket ones and mitsubishis) and I would be very surprised if one failed on you. They are about as likely as a ballast to fail in a stock car w/ HID's... same goes for the bulbs too, the philips are some of the best bulbs out there!

What I think would be a great example of stellar Sakebomb customer service is to film an install video on an FD..... I happen to know of a shiny red example that's available
