Hitachi "SP" Twins 1st Dyno session

308@8.5 psi...hmmmmm 330 around 12.5
Finally got her on the dyno

At 8.5 7000 rpm she pulled 308
12.5ish around 330. We started to get some intermittent leaning so we backed off from there.

New motor ported by Kilo
new oem ignition twin power
2200 secondaries with supra pump
Large pettit IC, DP, hi flow cat, RB dual, pettit intake
New Hitachi "sp" twins

I believe I fixed the leaning, but I will make another mod to be safe. Not sure what boost I will run, but I may try to get 14psi on the hi side. Running 11-11.5 now.

I would be interested in what it will make with 14psi. Have you driven it? Noticed anything different response-wise?

Also what ECU - PFC?

PFC. Low 11s on the afr with moderately conservative timing (imo). The response is practically instant on the road. The "tuner" wanted a manual boost controller so that's what I installed.
I will be switching back to the pfc for boost control.

It was having some intermittent lean spikes at high rpm which now appear to have just been some lean cells. He stopped the session. I used FC Tweak when I got home and it picked up on the cells instantly. After correcting the cells I then logged some 4th gear pulls on the road and could not replicate the lean spikes.. I will be re wiring the pump from bulkhead to pump soon just as a precaution just incase that could have been the cause. I already have the Sakebomb's rewire harness on it. Maybe she got heated up? Pump or fuel? The fuel level was under 1/4..... I really think it was just some lean cells.
I was suprised at the 308-310 at 8.5. Who knows with the dynos (although this is suppose to be very accurate). Even at 8.5 psi on the road she felt pretty damn quick.

It feels very responsive and traction is easy to lose at the present. I will probably schedule another dyno run. I really don't want too as I am not a dyno paper kinda guy, but I want to feel safe and confident in this. I want to be able to beat on it and not have to be pinned to gauges more than just normal scans.

The response compared to my 93 twins is quicker I should add. It just pulls like hard, but I have a new motor that's ported and a 4.44 gear so I am not sure about the comparison to what I had before. Hope that helps a little.

So I am at 14psi with it stable at 13.5 psi with low 11s AFR and still very conservative timing and no knock. All I can say is WOW! This car is officially very quick. I can't really estimate any power, but I would say 350-60ish to the wheels? Sound right or is that a "no way"? I can break the rear loose pretty easy in 2nd around turns.... I guess that's not the best example. I will get it back to a dyno eventually. I believe the dyno I was on was fairly accurate even though from what I gather its suppose to be one of the "cheaper ones". These turbos are suppose to be around 20-30HP over the regular 99s from what I understand and it seems about right. (13% or so more flow).

Regardless, as long as it holds strong it is a lot of damn fun now!!!

Very nice! Cool to see, how much did you pay for these Hitachi twins, and who sourced them? If it's not The Doc and someone reasonable, please do forward some information about them. Maybe down the road, might be worth putting a penny in the piggy bank everyday to save up for them.

Jatt these are not to be mistaken for the Dr's SP. These are from Hitachi as an upgrade. I am still trying to figure out more about them. They have been around for awhile. I was very lucky and picked them up for well under 4k from Ari at RX7.COM. I think Hitachi stopped making them, but the Aussies have the molds and will continue them or somwthing like that. There is a really good thread called "What are these Hitachi SP anyway" or something like that. There is a lot of good info in there. Ari knows all about it. I know Banzai has/had them also. They were a no Brainer for me as they are not some oddity and they bolt right up. They are an upgrade from the 99s. I dont know about the accuracy of this dyno. I will be pulling another one soon as everything g is also more dialed in now this was a rough street tune, mechanical boost controller and no wastegate solenoid plugged in or anything.

How long have they been around? Would they have a different serial number on them than the original 99 twins?
