The rears have a lot more room than the fronts do.
When I figured out the backspacing in the rears, you can run up to a 6.0" backspacing!
So, you're still safe with the 5.5" backspacing.
The problem is that running anything wider than a 9.0" wide slick is really tight.
I dunno what you're planning to do, but a 26" x 9.0" x 15" works really well for an FC.
The slightly taller diameter makes for running through the traps redlining in 3rd gear for most moderately powered FC's, or...top of 4th at around 130 to 135mph, which should be a 10-second run!
I did those calculations with the stock transmission several years ago, but we don't have a drag strip down here anymore.
Maybe some of other more experienced drag racers can chime in?

Also, would a 15x8 w/ +25 offset be ok? The guy that has the 15x10s has the 15x8s for cheap too. These are for the rear. I'm going to run 15x5s for front runners.
Like I said...I dunno what you're planning to do...
The 15" x 8.0", +25 will work, but it might be too narrow for what you're trying to do?

What tire sizes do you guys recommend for these wheel specs:

F: 17x8 +45
R: 17x9 +38

also do you think i'll need spacers on the front?

i really want these wheels to work (i've already bought them =\ ) so any help is greatly appreciated!

sorry for the double post, it wont let me edit after 30 min. for some reason.

anyway

i was looking at http://fc3spro.com/TECH/MODS/RT/rims.htm and it says the max offset on the front (with an 8" wide wheel and a 225 tire) is +35, SO i'll be needing a 10mm spacer, correct? Do you recommend a 225 tire for the front?

The max offset on the rear is +40. So the rear should fit fine with a 225 (again, do you recommend a 225? or ___? i really have no clue) right?.

Not going to fit up front...
You need like a 1/2" spacer to fit the fronts, or it's going hit **** inside.

Will 17x8, 35mm offset with 215/45R17 tires on OEM struts and springs on an 87 turbo II fit without any rubbing? From what I've read they won't but I would like another opinion. Thanks.

Ordering as soon as I know!

Front and back, will they fit?

1. Stock GXL suspension.
2. Will get rims after coilovers

Let me give you a minute to take a breath, Ted.

Guys, please...
http://www.fc3spro.com/TECH/MODS/RT/rims.htm

SlidewaysFC3S, with a 9" run around +10 to +15 offset for the front for a good fit, and around 20 on the rear.

By the way, Ted, I met one of your old friends, Todd Ho at Formula D a few weeks ago.

For an 8" wheel, a 205 should be fine or a 215 I suppose. 215s will stretch on a 9" wheel, but 225s or 235s are suggested if you aren't sliding.

so im getting close to making a descion

this guys wants to trade me some sportmax 962's, 17x9's with an offset of +33 all around
tire sizes are 235/40 up front and 225/45 in the rear with damn near new tires. For my ol school 15x7 volk meshies.

my question is, if i roll and pull my front fenders, is it possible to fit 9's up front if i ran some negitive camber. i know imma need at least a 20mm spacer cos im on tein s techs and stock shocks, but would the rim and tire stick out?

would it just look ******* stupid? should i just suck it up and buy wider fenders? i just dont want a good deal to pass me by.

Although it might sound like a good deal, those Sportmaxx wheels are crap in my book.
They are usually heavy and CHEAP (check eBay).
So it might sound like a good deal, but I think your Volks are lighter...

Also, the tires sizes don't make sense...
Wider up front?
Is that a typo or you got them backwards?

Okay, you sound like you have an idea on what you're trying to do...
Just going by the tire size, it should fit under the stock fenders.

I wouldn't go this deal myself, since those Sportmaxx wheels are not in the same class as the Volks...

Last question

I found a great deal on these wheels

2- 18 x 8.5 35 offset
2- 18 x 9.5 35 offset

I know that

2- 18 x 8 32 offset
2- 18 x 9 38 offset

is best

Would the front (18 x 8.5) with a spacer say 3 mm clear both stock suspension and stock fenders in front.(I think it might be to wide to fit 235 in front from what I read).

What about rear

Any advise would be helpful.

sorry, i did reverse the tire size. they would just be my daily rims and my volks would be my track tims. i just want somthing a little wider with a decent lip. but the sportmax's are the wrong color for my car, they're gold with a polished lip. i think gunmetal would look better.

You're rolling on volks, s tech springs, and stock struts... "sometimes you just have to say wtf?!"

FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS TO KNOW IF A CERTAIN SIZE WHEEL WILL CLEAR...

There. Now please take a moment to educate yourself. It may seem confusing at first, but its really not difficult. I would suggest coming back and posting if specific questions can't be answered by that.

13s, 14s, 15s, 16s, 17s, 18s; they all work, it just depends on how much you want to fill that wheel well.

Wheel diameter doesn't affect anything...only brake rotor size / clearance and tire sizes to keep with the stock rolling diameters.
I have a tire chart to compares popular tire sizes versus the stock sizes...

i have an fc with 17x7 wheel with 40mm offset.
225/45/17 front
255/40/17 rear.
the car is lowered with tanabe gf210 springs.
the front tires rub the spring and the wheel well,i grinded out the fenders and the is no more rub there, but it still rubs on the spring?
i'm thinking a 215/40/17 on the front.
the care looks awesome though. i just want o be able to drive it hard without worrying about blowing a tire.
