I am looking at two different sets of wheels, wondering which will work best. I am not apposed to using spacers if I must.

18x8 +25 offset
18x9 +20 offset

17x8 +35 offset
17x9 +35 offset

These will be going on an '87 TII that currently has stock suspension, but will be upgrading at least to springs, possibly coilovers.

I meant, you should do some research on what the numbers mean, and then check the manufacturer's spec sheet to see if the tires you're asking about will fit the wheels, based on my recommendations above.

Tire Rack (www.tirerack.com) is a good place to start learning how to read tire sizes.

I like the 17's, as I think the 18's may stick out of the fender, depending on the tire size you run.

nope... you would need an offset down near 35-30 to fit an 8" wheel up front... you could run a 15-20mm spacer

How about these with spacers and fender rolling on an '87 TII:

Front Wheels: 18×9JJ Offset +38

Rear Wheels: 18×10.5JJ Offset +39

PCD: 5X114.3 lug pattern.

If so, can I put 245's on the front and 275's on the rear? Am I just dreamin'?

The guy above you is rolling on 17x9 +24 up front w/ 255's and 17X10.5 w/ 275's rear. Its more then just a roll, its a pull also (notice the lips on his fenders?). But yeah, it can be made to fit.

I would like to see a picture of the strut/spring clearance on this setup.. not saying it can't be done, I just think it will be very very very tight... maybe less the 5mm

At these tolerences, I am sure it is dependant on the actual rim, tire and strut manufacture used.

This is all good info. Seems that there's no true way to go into this fully prepared. I just don't want to get stuck with a set of wheels I cannot use....

Yup, its very close. couple mm at most. they happened to fit in my case, but different coilovers and different tire models affect clearance.
i'm now on 245's, and i can post an inside pic of that if you want (no reason for the change in size- i just found a good deal on these tires)

tein flex. i couldnt tell you if other tein coilovers fit the same, much less other brands.

Stock fenders-
225/45/17 Front
245/40/17 Rear

Rolled/Pulled fenders-
245/40/17 Front (very little clearance with coilovers. 235 is a safer bet)
275/40/17 Rear

wanted to follow up on this for you guys. i took a pic, and yes the clearance is really close.. but you'll notice in my case, that its the rim protector thats closest, and the actual tread of the tire has some room. these are 245's in the pic, but 255's fit also because only the top part of the tire leans in.
wheel is 17x9 +24
now if you picture the spring being further down the shock body, it looks liek that might actually rub. tein flex's happen to have the perch in a good place (for 17's), but other coilovers may be very different.

i fit a 2mm alan wrench between the perch and the rim protector (closest part). the area between the meat of the tire and the bottom of the spring is at least 6mm (didnt actually measure).

those may be from back when i had 255's on 17x8 +30 wheels.
i checked the current tires, and theres no sign of any rubbing on the tire itself.

Hey Guys,

I am new to the RX7 world as I just bought a super nice 88 GTU. I have done a search and have been unable to find an answer as to whether a 4.5 bolt pattern will fit. I know stock is 114.3 which comes out to something like 4.503 which sounds close enough but I figure I need the knowledge of those smarter than myself! Thanks!
