ok so you guy
I have an LS1 (Sorry I know) so I need the widest tire I can fit
I was wondering what off set and tire size (these will be slicks) i could go with an
15X8
15X9
16X8
16X9
wich one do you guy think i could get the wides tire on all 4 corners and what size tire
Im thinking a 16X9 with 255/35 tires with a +35 offset for ALL 4 corners
What do you guys think?

I'd question the use of 710's for HPDE's, they won't last nearly as long as something like the R888 and the extra grip really isn't needed. It's a bit of overkill, since there's no trophy, no winner or anything like that.

R888's and NT-01's are both from the same parent company, so I'd expect them to both be very similiar in terms of speed and feel.

Personally I'd go with the 15's on the track and 17's on the street. Gives better looks on the street where the performance isn't as important, and maximizes performance on the track where it matters and will give better handling balance.

Kumho SPT's are a good option for street tires too. They'll have about the same all wheather capability as the UHP (not reccomended for snow or ice). I've used them and was happy with them, a good tire for cheap. Great in the rain.

A 17x8.5 30mm offset rim should fit with a 235/40/17. That's what I want next, I'm thinking Enkei RP-F1 (15.5lbs!) and Dunlop Z1's.

Blueman86: Have you actually checked to see if that tire size is even made? I've never seen one in that size. Unless you start going to a fairly tall sidewall or a pure race slick (not DOT'd) then you're pretty much limited to 225's in a 15" wheel and 245's in a 16" wheel. About the widest you could probably fit (and it'll definetely need fender rolling) is a 245/45/16. Kumho makes a 265/45/16 that you could use on the rear. Really 17's are probably a better bet (more tire selection and wide sizes), and it'll leave more room for a brake upgrade later on if/when you need it. With some wide front fenders maybe 255/40/17's on 17x9's and 275/40/17's in back on 17x10's.

ok, I searched for a few minutes, even stumbled on Ted's page of offsets.

But I have to ask as this package has come up and im trying to see if it will work for me:

fronts: 18x8 +30 with 245/35/18 ( i know the rim size is good to go- its the tire im wondering about? )

rear is where im confused: 18x9 +42, 275/35/18 tire

I was thinking that if I had the V710's I made just use them for Time Trials also, instead of risking overheating the 275 A6's.....

But would the 235's on 8.5, +30 fit with stock springs and shocks? If it's barely any clearance, then, the it may not fit with the GC's.

I think in the long run it'll be cheaper to have two sets of wheels and tires, one for HPDE's and one for TT. That way you don't have to "waste" the super sticky tires on HPDE's and can run harder, longer lived, possibly cheaper tires at HPDE's and you'll save on tires in the long run. Maybe use your existing set of 15x7's for some of those the HPDE tires and get some 15x8's for some 710's. That way also you won't be using up your 710's at HPDE's so they'll be fresher and faster for longer for TT.

I think on an NA FC 275 A6's should be ok. A bunch of people run A6's for the Runoffs and such, so they can handle it.

Rob XX 7: 18x8 +30 with 245/35/18 will very likely rub, and the +37's will need spacers, and 275's are always tight in the back, so maybe you should go a little narrower or be prepared to work at making them fit (ie potential spacers, definite fender rolling, etc).

definitly no 245, even with coilovers?

what about that 18x9 +42 offset for the rear?

225 no problem, 245 can fit, but be prepared to have to space out the wheel a little and roll/pull the fenders. Unfortunately on our cars, coilovers don't really give any more clearance.

what size tires do u guys think i should run 87 turboII hks coilover i have 18x8 with 20 offset for the front and 18x9 with 20 offset for the rear need help cant make up my mine i was going with 225 40 18 f / 245 40 18 r but i want a little bigger i can have the fenders roll if i have to. thanks guys

You'll need to roll your fenders even for a 225 in front, the offsets a bit too low. The rear should be ok, but it'll be pretty close.

Just found out that the HPDE's will be running concurrently with the NASA TT series in my area, meaning the fastest times I run during my HPDE sessions are my TT times......looks like I'm going for V710s or R6's.......goddang it. Probably R6's since they're faster than the V710's. I may just borrow a friend's set of tires to do a non-competitive track session now.

R6: 225/45/15 or 245/50/15? The 245 seems way too tall for my liking.

At this point, since it's NASA, I may just build up another car for NASA-X and NASA TT since it's too hard to adopt a STS2 car to do TT duty based on classing.

You sure about that? Recently GRM tested tires, both autocross and track, they found the R6 was slower than the Hanlook Z214 C51 compound, the Nitto NT-01 shaved and the BFG R1, in that order, so it placed last in their test. Then at autocross, it was Toyo R888, then BFG R1, then Hoosier R6, then Kumho V710 (although in a smaller size of 245/35/18, the 285/30/18 didn't fit the 18x8's for the RX-8).

This is what I've been told by a fellow ITS RX-7 racer, apparently, the V710's lag behind the R6's by a couple of seconds, all the top cars in the northeast seem to run R6's.

Which issue was this? I haven't remembered reading about a tire test in awhile.

it all depends on what tires you will be choosing from, and what suspension you can run, if you can run a super stiff setup there isnt any reason you cant run a 15x10 at all four corners with a racing slick even if it sticks out of the front fenders a little. you need about a +35 offset or less out back for a 10" and about a +10 offset up front depending on your strut design/perch/etc. a friend of mine had some RealRacingWheels in 15x10 all around with a zero offset but he had to also use a spacer to clear the front 4-piston calipers, doh!

I dont think you will find any 16" STREET tires in a 35 series sidewall, but I could be wrong, for the street at least. I was in your shoes a few years ago and there just arent any high quality street tires that are wide in anything other than a 17" or 18". your best bet may be a set of wide fenders up front and a set of 17x9's all around with about a +15 offset and a 255/40R17 tire, thats a very common tire size and for wheels you can find something like the superlightweight Enkei RPF1 for not much money (compared to volk, work, ccw, etc.)

The track tire test was in the Oct 2007 issue of GRM, the autocross tire test in the November 2007 issue. The track tire test was on a short, tight track (actually a kart tack) on a WRX wagon on 225/45/17's on 17x8's. They noticed that the Hoosiers and Hankooks really dropped off in performance as they heated up (overheated?). This might happen with the V710's too, but if it's more or less I don't know.

One key thing to note is that something like an NT-01 isn't necessarily slower than an R6 type tire.

If you really want to go fast maybe the BFG R1 is the way to go.

I guess not, but the top cars in my autox club run A6 or V710......so it's kind of easy to see which way I'm leaning to.

The flywheel restriction of STS2 and ITS really hurts any cars that try to compete in both SCCA and NASA racing.

Well The tires im looking for are going to be ONLY for track use so I dont want DOT tires Just some Good Road racing Slick Racing Slicks

Im tring to streer from a wide body kit but will think about it if i can fing one for cheep Maybe a Bushwacker Wide body kit!!!!

Look for Grand Am Cup Slicks then if you want something better than DOT R-compounds.

Question is, Are you a good enough driver to handle racing slicks? How many track days have you done? Prior racing experience?

An offset of 50 would require big spacers to fit in front, and somewhat thinner ones for the rear. A better bet would be to get 15mm offsets and run wide fenders in front and you might get by with just a fender roll in the back.
