brake booster question

Hey Guys,

Question:

Around the brake booster, I see paint peeling off and in some places, the paint has completely peeled off. And where the master cylinder hooks up to the brake booster, the paint has pe.eled off all around that area and it looks like it could be rust.

I was wondering if the brake fluid has leaked into the brake booster. From what I have been told, that means that the secondary seal from the master cylinder could be leaking and possibly leaking into the brake booster.

What do you think?

Do you see any fluid missing from the brake fluid reservoir?

My 93 does the same ****, and I just bought a rebuilt master cylinder and its wet around where it mounts to the brake booster. Pisses me off. It sound like your has a definate leak if your tranny won't go into gear sometimes.

You shouldn't need to replace the brake booster. However, when changing the MC, you can take off the cover and repaint it.

There is usually a seal between them, they do hold vacuum so the are air tight. Just clean it up and repaint it.

Take a look at Garfinke's engine bay:

You'll see the brake booster cover is painted silver to match his car.
