rebuilt engine source

My 87 RX 7 s engine apparently blew the coolant seal. I was informed that the only fix was to put a different engine in it. They were going to install an engine that had 100,000 miles on it. They were going to charge me $3198.00 for the engine and installation. They would guarantee parts only for 30 days. As the engine has so many miles on it I declined that offer.
Where can I get a good rebuilt nonturbo rotary engine for my 87 RX 7.? Actually the transmission fuel system, radiator electrical, interior and body are in good condition. It needs a paint job and a good cleaning go the interiour. I put some new tires on it and also a new fuel pump. So I think it is worth rebuilding the engine subject to just how much money I would have sink into this project. I did not object to the price above but rather an engine with 100,000 miles that I knew nothing about

Thank you for any help!

There is always rotary performance if they haven't gone over to only working on FD's as I heard.

If you can swap it yourself you can save a bundle.

Damn dude! Do a little research! Not to be a *****, but you are getting raked over the coals for an engine swap w/ a 100,000 mile motor! It's just the coolant seal! REBUILD THE ENGINE!!!!! Hopefully you'd just need to replace the soft seals, but while you had it apart you may as well replace everything you can. Get in touch with BDC on here, great guy, great builder, very patient.....

OK Research

texTurboFC I don't want to be a ***** but you need to learn to read. In my post I said I declined. I am not about to pay over $3000.00 for a RX7 engine with 100,000 miles on it. Even the mechanic and service manager recommended against doing that!
I have found a couple of places that sell rebuilt or remanufactered engines but most of these nonturbo 2nd gen rotary with a 24000 mile warranty are about $1900.00 + core charge + shipping.
I am 56 years old with a serious back condition requiring pain meds to I can function . I have never pulled a rotory engine, I have been told by some who sell used RX7 parts that I should find someone who at least has worked on these kinds of engines.
If I can not find a rebuilt engine for less than $1900.00 then I will have to make a decision as to whether the car is worth spending around $3000.00 .
The car was given to me, it runs good except for overheating. The body is in very good condition ,the tranny is excellent, new tires battery ,and fuel pump. Brakes seem to be good. It is an 87 with 137,000 miles on it.
I have spent around $500.00 on it already so the question is will a nice 87 RX7 with a fresh rebuilt engine be worth close to $4000.00.
How good a car can you buy for $4000.00?

If you would consider a used motor and they are in OK city - http://www.apexautoparts.net/apex.html

Rebulit -

One of the less expensive: http://www.rotaryresurrection.com/2n...ne_prices.html
http://www.mazdatrix.com/engnumna.htm

The list can go on and on... from what you have said about your situation I'd start with Apex and see what they have on a good used motor and also talk to Rotary Resurrection. Finding someone to put the motor in shouldn't be too big of deal, Apex can probably give you a contact in OK city.

that is very understandable with your back conditions. Best thing that I can tell u is have someone rebuild it and reinstallit for you and Im sure that it will run you about 1500-2000 including labor ( I sure someone is able to help this man out)

Good Luck Damien, if u have any questions please feel free to ask us.

Like I said, talk to BDC, or go to BDCmotorsports.com. If the housings and rotors are still in good shape, a rebuild should cost you no more than $1700

Yea rebuild dont really cost alot anymore as long as you know what to do.

I normally charge 350 for labor plus parts, and parts most of the time never go above 1K so u are looking at a max of 1350

I`ve got a problem with a `84 GSL-SE. Idle is good and smooth as long as it is cold. Warmed up and under power it loses power. The motor is stock and has 94,000 on it. It sat for about 4 years before I found it and paid $400 for it. So far I`ve spent about $3000 on getting it going. New: fuel system tank to injectors; new brake system Master Cylinder to pads;tires, tune up etc...I`m building this car for my son so I want it to be very healthy as he has no mechanical skills...
