v-2 compressor side too small?

v-2 compressor side too small?

i have a streetported TII, and after the stock turbo decided it was no longer required to prevent oil from going everywhere, i opted for a replacement, i got a .60 A/R but looking at the compressor map for it, (its the v-1/v-2 map), im not sure if ill be happy with it or not. I have been looking for a 60-1 housing and wheel to change over, but have had little luck in finding just those parts.

so can i get some thoughts on this setup? also, im running a 1.15 a/r exhaust. (not a small streetport.)

JacobCartmill made 360rwhp @15psi with a Borg Warner S200(same turbo specs as yours).

It's not an ideal compressor like the" 60-1" but a good bang for the buck T04B turbo.I have one collecting dust that hopefully will be able to be put to use.

well i have four motors right now, and two cars...lol. two motors are getting rebuilt currently, the other is a stock GSLSE and the last one is the TII. so i bought a T70 last night because i can always use another turbo.

The Garrett T04B V-trim can make about 300hp at the wheels efficiently.
It's very quick spooling and would make for a very quick street car.
I wouldn't try and push it over 350hp at the wheels...

even with the 1.15 a/r on a streetport? i almost think its too big, but then again the stock turbo seemed overwhelmed (spooled VERY quick, even with bad bearings) so that is why i opted for the 1.15 at the time.

Yeah, even with the 1.15 turbine A / R...
The turbine A / R will give you a little bit more top end power, but it won't give you a huge jump in power.

you could bump it up to an h-trim. that's about the biggest you can stuff in a to4b housing without machining it out.

2.18 X 2.75 trim works out to be 63
average compressor area 4.83 sq inches
approx flow 48 lbs min @ 2.7 pr ratio 25 psi at 55% effic @ 120,000 rpm!
@ 14 psi 43 lbs/minute @ 55% efficiency

rw rotary hp: 48 lbs = 361 MAX
rw rotary hp: 43 lbs = 324 MAX

H3

2.298 X 2.75 trim is 70
average compressor area 5.04 sq inches
approx flow 49 lbs/minute @ 2.6 pr ratio 23 psi @ 126,000 rpm!
@ 14 psi 42 lbs min @ 60% efficiency
hp.... as you can see the flow is almost the same but w better efficiency.

60-1

2.324 X 3 trim 60
average compressor area 5.65 sq inches
approx flow 62 lbs/min @ 2.2 17 psi @ 111,000 rpm
@ 14 psi 60 lbs/min @ 60% efficiency

rw rotary hp: 62 lbs= 467 MAX

so at 14 psi, there is more than 100 hp difference between the setups....

Any wheel bigger then the V-2 and it'll require machining the comp housing out or replacing it with the appropriet machined housing.

You can't stuff bigger wheels in any housing without maching it or using the correct housing mached for the wheel. Theres very few wheel "upgrades" that fit into a "lesser" wheel's housing without machining. There is the S trim and the "super S" trim, the V trim and "Super V", and H trim and "super H" trim. The reason those don't require machining of the comp housings is because they share the same inducer diameter and wheel shape except the exducer diameter is bigger. They do require machining the back plate or replacing it. The S trim can be replaced by the "super S" trim and the V by the super V etc.

Lastly, some stuff the larger 62-1 into a T04B comp housings for space reasons. So, you can stuff bigger wheels then the H-rim. The 60-1 in a T04B is often refered as the "HiFi". Using either one of these wheels in a smaller T04B housing (as oppossed to the T04S housing the wheels were meant for) results in flow loses from 5~15%.
