Question Need help choosing a turbo!! please help, I NEED IT!!

Hi All,

I need to choose between the following two turbos:

1) Garret T04R

or

2) Garret T78 Racing turbo

What are the advantages and disadvantages of both ? I will be more using the car for street and occasionally on track/drag.

Your information appreciated.

thank you!!!

the t78 is a good old fashion PROVEN turbo that will slam your head back in the seat on the top end. Alot of guys will say its a little laggy compared to other turbos on the market but i like that turbo alot. It will get it done. I dont know much about the t04r except that it will spool faster but most likely will not make as much power as the t78 will. Im sure others will chime in here to give you further input. good luck man

The real question is what do you plan on doing with your car? Do you drive it daily? weekend driven? Do you auto x it? Drag? What are your horsepower goals? What mod's do you already have on the car? Everything comes into play when choosing a different turbo setup other then factory.

thanks for the feedback so far. the car wont be driven daily, maybe twice a month or so and some track racing or drag. Right now the engine is being completly redone to have about 450 horsepower with all reliable mods, porting etc....not sure which is a greddy or garret..my mechanig is taking care of everything since I am in the US...

Ive had the a TON of turbo setups and the 35r is horrible. From what i hear the 500r is badass. t78 is still a nasty turbo also.

i'm pretty sure the T04Z = T04R but ball bearing. they are at least similar turbos.

I think this is the first time I've heard someone say the 35r sucks, I've seen about 150 posts that say it is the best street turbo though

I'm right there with you. I would like some reasons for the opinions expressed.

Why is the Gt35r horrible?

Why do you like the 500r better?

What are your thoughts on the T-78?

I'm shopping for a single and I'm not sure which direction I want to go.

I need to chosse between t04r or a t78, I have been searching the single turbo forum and I noticed alot of set ups with t78, looks like its more popular than the t04r. maybe because the t04r is a newer turbo ??? I think the only difference is that the t78 takes slightly little longer to kick in but better on the top end ...

Any great suggestions

Go with the T04Z....rather than a T04R. It's a spunky little turbo with full boost around 3.7k. I am making around 400 rwhp at 15psi.
