Question T78 Racing turbo vs T04R ????

Hi,

I have to decide between those two turbos. My hp goal is around 400 - 500rwhp. Car will be mostly driven in the street with occasional drag racing. Any feedback from owners that have T78 OR 704R installed in their rx7`s ??
thanks for the info, this website has been great help for my rebuilt!!

thanks again guys!

I personally think the t04R spools faster than the t78.

TO4R cutback would be a good choice and have my vote.

Thanks for the help, I`m leaning for the T04R. I heard that the T78 is better for the top end but is laggy at first...is the T04R an HKS or Greddy ?

My T78 seemed a bit laggy , that was until I picked up a Greddy RP exhaust. The
T78 spools up alot faster I say 38-4k

Nice turbo, with the 3row FMIC I expect to be 500-525 rwhp once I boost above 20psi.

I'm running a to4 z and have run a pt67. I've played with all kinds of turbos
except the greddy and hks stuff... all the way to a 76mm monster. I will tell
you the to4r is incredible my second favorite behind my to4z[bbto4r]
I'm running a.81 undivided turbine housing at 21-22 psi and there is no
traction until 3rd gear. There is lots of torque as low as 3000rpm.

On my race port motor I ran a T04r and it was awsome. Outrages power band. Full boost by about 3800 rpm on regular 360 thrust bearing.

i have a T04R on my S5 stock port motor running 15psi i made 385 WHP. i really love this turbo it spools fast for a stock port motor and never runs out of power. i hear it dosent even wake up till 17-20 psi!

what does this "cutback" mean? I know I'm not the only one to wonder...

Cant comment on choice since I've never driven/raced FDs with either of these.

I absolutely loved my T-78 set up. Very drivable, great pick up, not to much lag.

HKS used to market (maybe still does) their TO4R cutback, basically it was a TO4R with a clipped turbine in a .84 housing. So you got both response and still some flow up top.

I was actually disappointed with the response on my T04R.........

For how much larger the 42 is, it really doesn't spool that much slower than the T04R IMO
