Hey, I shot that! My engine...well, YOUR engine, HAHA. That's cool seeing it online though, for the world to know and love the rotary. Especially the lovely bridgeport sound. Justin (with the Miata) is following me up tomorrow, you can ride up with me and he'd probably let you ride back with him if I stay up there late. We're taking off at 11am by the way.

I will probably be at the church at 2... but we'll see. Both RX-7s are not curvy-road safe, so I may end up being a passenger again.

The FC is having some serious coolant issues... but I may decide to drive her anyway. She's fine once she warms up.

I'll see you there!

Thanks for coming out and participating in the drive yesterday. Sorry we didn't get to drive the entire circuit, but glad to hear from Phil last night that they got the 944 home, have fun on replacing the torque tube and enjoy this bonding with your Porsche. I noticed that the only part of the course I didn't mark was the section east on Purnell Road, at the left turn on to Bold Run Hill and then the right turn at the top of Bold Run Hill.

Anyone that went Saturday should be able to lead a drive on it after taking another drive with a buddy or lonesome. It will take a good 2 hours and maybe a little more and is easily 100 miles or curvey back roads. When we got back to the Char Grill my speedo was reading 83 miles and we started at the church and missed at least 3 segments. We'll can do it again any Saturday or Sunday a group wants to get together.

Okay, last night, at Frankies, I said I would post today's results. So here they are. Some of you know I went to the track and ran...the slicks didn't end up working, but here are the numbers on my 2 runs with street tires...

---------------first run------second run
Reaction----.8110---------.7330
60 ft---------2.4688-------2.3638
330 ft-------6.4342-------6.1289
1/8 et-------9.4269-------9.0659
1/8 MPH----83.48---------84.44
1/4 et------14.1090------13.7479
1/4 MPH---104.62--------103.95

So as you can see, I still have a lot of work to do on my 60 ft times, but I'm getting there and learning pretty quick. Wish I didn't have to borrow a helmet so I coulda made more runs Next time!

if you go on bert's route make sure you don't follow the guy in front of you too closely. i spent 2 hours straightening radiator fins, and still have some more to do.

Holy **** he's alive again, haha, good to "see" you again Jason. I might be about ready for a rematch next time we meet up, haha.

David, I think it's about $10 or $15 to run all day in Fayetteville, I can meet you guys out there. This Sunday perhaps? Although I'm not sure if they're still open during the winter cause I know they aren't having any more Freaky Fridays til April or so.

I've been wanting to talk to the Fayetteville Motorsports guys about maybe getting an autocross track too.

Speaking of Deer and Backroad Drives....

Forgot to tell you guys about my drive up to VIR for the Chin Motorsports HPDE Sunday morning. Left the house around 5:30 and took the same route I always take, I-40 to 86 to 119 to 57. Anyways it's dark (duh) and while I was taking that nice 2nd section of 119 I thought about the drive you guys took Saturday and the posts about potential deer problems that were made. It occured to me in all my years of driving I had never had an "encounter "with deer other than seen them on the side of the road driving the Blue Ridge Parkway or an occasional glance of one in/near the woods along the highway, nothing to worry about sightings. Well, for some reason I decided to slow down from my typical 85mph to a slower 65mph then to whatever the suggested speed limit was. So, nothing happens and I end up on 57 for that little section before you turn right to go to VIR. Suns coming up, it's close to 6:30am and I find myself speeding again down that last little stretch to the stop sign before entering VIR. Then it happened, right where a guardrail starts on the right before the stop sign (maybe a 1/4 mile) I see them coming. 5 deer heading for the road at full speed and me closing fast at about 70mph. My first thought was "figures" since I had been thinking about it, my second thought was "this is going to suck". The first one crossed in front of me with no problem. the four following I was preparing to take at least two of them with me. Somehow I managed to lliterally slide, yes I got sideways, myself between the first two of them. Imagine a deer almost in the left lane and a deer just in the right lane with about 6 feet from side to side between them, then put me with my rear end in the left lane and front end in the right lane. Basically a deer on the left front bumper just clearing barely and the other getting ready to nail the right rear of the car. Somehow it missed and as I looked back in the mirror I saw that one all over the road slipping and falling. The other two cleared my rear with no problem... then the one in the road got up and ran off unhurt it looked like. I slammed to a stop thinking "son-of-a-bitch that was ******* too close to be alive" and then thought about checking the car 'cause I knew there was just no way the second deer hadn't hit my car. Got out and looked and couldn't find anything to suggest we had made contact, maybe it was just a glance or whatever but I know that deer had to have made contact to end up in the road like it did. Drove on to VIR and checked in then parked and thought about it for a while. Then I remember someone had hit a deer on the track not to long ago also. I've decided I don't like deer anymore and needless to say since it was dark when we left the track I drove home... carefully.

-----CLIFF NOTES------

-Drove to VIR Sunday morning for the Chin Motorsports HPDE.
-Had a close encounter of the 3rd kind with several deer.
-The car and I survived without any damage.
-I don't like deer.

Chin Motorsports at VIR Pics

Not everyday you get to see one of these. Yes, I sat in it.

Or get to see him spin out, then baby it the rest of the day. It's one of 150 hand made in '96 for racing on the European circuit for a year back then and then they sold them to the public.

Here's a pic of something I've never seen in person, a 3rd gen with the front wheels in the air...

And then got to talk to these guys quite a bit. They're from Greensboro and are at VIR testing just about everytime I've been up there for an HPDE. They run in the Grand Am events.
