Old guys with 12As club meeting
So, tried daily's battery, however the terminals are either backwards or on the wrong side of the battery depending on orientation, so the car battery terminals wouldn't reach. I tried just using jumper cables hooked into the daily's battery and then onto the 7's terminals, and it would turn, but VERY slowly. I could hear some compression (since it doesn't have anything except an exhaust manifold), but it didn't sound like enough puffs, as expected unfortunately. I'll just have to get a proper battery for it I think.
Thoughts?

Probably safest to get a new battery. In my experience, most jumper cables just don't flow enough amps. Hopefully you'll get it going with a fresh battery!
I agree with Brett, get a new battery, the jumper cables are Mickey Mouse.
A nice thing about 12A's is they don't need a lot of juice to turn over.
Even a cheap walmart battery can last years passed their expiration date.
The el cheapo battery in my LE is 15 years old, works as well as the day it was installed.

my old battery died. in part beacuse te old cable connectors were old crap. Napa honered their warranty so the battery was onlr $35.00. i replaced the old connectors so the battery would have a good conection to the alternator. Now it starts like a new Rx-7 instead of like a 38 year ols Rx-7. Savvy?

I've had to roll-start 3 of mine in the last few weeks, idk if the cold weather is getting to the batteries or I just need to remember to hook up the trickle chargers back up...
So, I can smell fuel pretty strongly (no exhaust, just exhaust manifold). Brand new battery, sounds slow to me? Thoughts? Starter fluid?
I also don't think the spark plugs are correct, they're single lead. I tightened as best I could. Does anyone have a cheaper alternative to the rb socket?

Stay away from the ether - use carb cleaner instead. You might want to try some fresh pre-mix (2 smoke / chainsaw) in the carb. The oil can help bump the compression if you have flooded it and the seals are questionable.

That doesn't sound terribly slow to me. Did it attempt to fire up at all, and have you checked for spark? If you smell gas but it's not attempting to fire up, maybe you have a spark problem. If the plugs are sketchy, throw in a new set of NGKs to be safe. I'm not very familiar with distributors and adjusting them, but perhaps you could have a dead ignitor, I've had that before... Maybe an old guy expert can chime in on what to check there?
You certain you have the plug wires connected correctly? Does your tach move when cranking (if not, likely a bad ignitor - they are the same for leading and trailing so you can swap them)? Have you checked for spark with the plug out / grounded?

And I'll get some carb cleaner this weekend. I'll dive deeper into spark plug testing and see if carb cleaner helps it kick. I have MMO, should I use that in the carb, or specifically get 2 stroke?
Sounds like progress.
You can test the spark by removing a plug, connecting to it's wire and grounding it out against the 12A.
You should see a nice blue yellow spark, if it's not to sunny out.
Correct on the spark assignments, lower is leading upper is trailing.
If the tach isn't kicking it could mean your trailing igniter is bad, easy fix.
Instead of carb cleaner, use starter fluid. It will work.

I'd remove the stuck plug and clean the threads in the housing with a brush and some solvent, always brushing outward.
No trailing ignition is no problem, the car should run and idle without it, so I'd focus right now on getting it running.

It's been super busy, thanks God. BMW 335 (twin-turbo six inline) mod-friendly car; I'm going to try to go this year; last year, I paid for it but wasn't able to go.
Happy New Year OGTA's!
