Old guys with 12As club meeting
Thanks Tim.
We can do it at Mike's during the January 5 meeting if we can get a windshield ordered in time.
Or if that's too soon DGRR would work.
It takes 2-3 hours, depending on the beer.

Did you get the old one out without breaking it?
I've put them in before but I don't seem to have the skills or patience to keep it from cracking on removal. There might also be a tool deficiency, cause all I used was a box cutter and a flathead screwdriver.

Well the old one was already cracked because a walnut feel on it.
However if it had been intact it would have come out without a scratch.
I did break the first one or two windshields I tried to remove from parts cars.
For those attempts I was following the instructions I got with the special tools I bought for the job.
Start by throwing the instructions for the special tools in the trash.
The next step is to throw the special tools and anything bigger than a 1.5 mm drill bit in the trash.
Now start with a very thin braided wire, the thinner the better, with a couple handles cut from a broomstick on each end.
The thin wire will cut through the seal like butter, this is the fun part.
A thicker wire cuts like a 2x4 through a corn field, which makes you mad and then you break the glass.
Second you need to drill your starter holes right, without touching the glass, which will be certain glass death.
I did my starter holes using a 1.5 mm drill bit in the middle of the windshield.
One at the top edge, the second at the bottom the bottom edge.
I drilled parallel to the glass face and flush against the body metal until the drill tip showed up outside.
Then I slipped the wire through the hole and sawed back and forth pulling toward the outside.
It's a one person job, most of the work is removing the trim bits.

Yes faster and more agile.
Tim and Greg, didn't you guys say you were thinking about windshield replacement?
It's easy if you know how, I'm going to source another first gen windshield to put in storage for when they get really rare.
I've got the tools and know how, all we need is a 1st gen and a shield.
Maybe we could get a discount if we buy 3 or more?

I'll check with the guys in Norcross on my way home today Greg the Younger.
I'll see what they have to offer, they were $132.50 two years ago.
Anybody else interested in the group buy?
PS, I checked and he's wanting $195 plus tax, $207 total.
Says there's only three left, I bought one.

Hello Ray! I could use one. I just bought an 84 that needs it!

I'm looking for a power steering control valve for my 1984 GSL (see pdf attachments). I've got the power steering pump working but this thing is still leaking badly. Can anyone help me, or do you know someone who can? I'm wondering if anyone has taken one apart and re-built it?
Howdy Carlos! I don't think a "group buy" will get us anywhere, they seem to find these units one at a time from various warehouse locations. He said the one I got was the only one at that location.
I would recommend that you first try to source it locally, I have a feeling that FB windshields are generally available for $100-$125 wholesale and are being resold retail much higher with the warning that they are "hard to find".
Don't tell the shop you are looking for a windshield that's hard to find like I did, gives them an excuse to sell for more. Just tell them you want a windshield for a 1984 Mazda RX-7, like it was your typical mid-80's Toyota Corolla.
If that doesn't get you anywhere I can call the guy (or you can call him) at Low Price Auto Glass in Norcross Georgia 770-448-3300 and see what he can find. According to my receipt he did indicate a discount from $245.35 retail down to $195 as his sale price for my unit.
Like I said up above, he claims they are getting hard to find but wanted me to put down some money on a second unit at $207, $70 more than I paid at the same shop 2 years ago. I like to have two of everything so I'm going to put my spare unit up in the attic.

Nice, but that looks like the devil himself to work on.
Agreed James. That ain't no RX-7.
Unless it's Trump's version, he is determined to destroy all that is beautiful.
Probably asked Juliany to design it.
And that thing is ugly as Trump for sure.
The only solution for RX-7 survival is is to keep renewing 1st gens.
It pleases the Rotary Gods.

Just imagine rolling down the freeway with your mullet tossing in the wind. Your sexy cousin turns up some Lynyrd skynyrd. And you can feel the pulse of the Supercharged 4.3 right behind you....

Is that a washing machine James?
Looks vaguely rotary but I'm not familiar with that model.
Happy Christmas and Merry New Year Folks!

Actually now that I think about it. Isn't a roots blower kind of like a rotary engine? It uses the same elipoid shape. It compresses air in much the same manner.
Have yall ever heard of the Roles Royce rotary diesel engine? It uses a twin rotor design. One rotor compresses air (like a supercharger) then pushes it into the second rotor housing that ignites it.

All right you guys, chill on the Lynyrd Skynyrd ****.
Y'all trying to be more Southern than everybody else.
I was born in Biloxi Mississippi, 1952.
Can anybody get more Southern than that?
And Florida don't count Tommy.
So we gonna go hiking up in the Mountains this weekend.
Anybody want to come?

No disrespect was directed at true southern rock. But it completed the picture.
