possibly the transition circuit may be the problem. it's not quite right with mine. maybe sterling can shed some light on what to do about it if that is the problem. i've cleaned mine several time and still can't get it quite right. maybe i can take a sat and drop by. ur not much farther than where ray is.

I don't understand. So I'll nod and smile.

Could you possibly explain anything I can look at to diagnose? I wish I had a video camera to show you guys exactly what is going on...

Quad,

I looked a bit, but couldn't find some good numbers for the Holley. I'll poke around a bit more, though. It sounds like the accelerator pump as Michael was saying. With the car off, try to look down the barrels and give the move the throttle and look for squirts.

I don't think it is related to the main jets or anything (unless one is clogged). When you are revving, there is no real load on the engine. There is little fuel needed to rev. If it will rev fine when you slowly increase the throttle, but bog when you mash it, it is usually an accelerator pump issue.

Have you checked that you are still at 6psi?

just finished reading on the sterling site on carb basics. now that i have a better understanding of the transition between the idle and main circuits, i'll probably take another crack at trying to get mine working better so i can lean the idle back out like it needs to be. as it stands, i have the idle way rich to help out in the transition. here's where i started if ur interested in getting a better understanding of carbs. http://sterlingmetalworks.com/

Yep. 6psi solid. As for the accelerator pump, if it is malfunctioning, how do I correct it? It doesn't really work with little throttle either, only little short bursts of throttle to get it started, then I'm good.

There is a diaphram in there. If the diapgram is torn, the AP won't work. You just replace the diaphram if it is bad (cheap and common).

Also check Michael's pics and see that your linkages are connected up properly so your AP will squirt when you press the pedal down.

that cam on urs could be worn down to the point that it's not working it properly. i had to replace mine the last time i rebuilt it. they wear pretty quickly if u don't keep alittle dab of grease on it.

It looks like it spins well, and will give a solid amount of gas down the throats, but I'll double check in the morning. I need a camera so I can videotape everything, rather than trying to use my phone for pictures only...

I learned a bit from this video. You might too!

I'm gonna check all this stuff tomorrow. I might just need to get bigger nozzles or whatever they were talking about.

I've been drinking a touch, so I can't really remember...

Just walked outside to look for my asthma inhaler in my car (which I couldn't find), and figured I'd play around with the accelerator pump. It's not squirting at all if the car isn't running, so it might have something to do with it. I tried to activate the pump by hand, and it worked once, but then wouldn't anymore. I'm thinking the float bowl might just be empty...

More diagnosis in the morning...

Quad the engine needs to be running for the fuel pump to pump, so you probably didn't have any fuel pressure after that first squirt. Also, gas in the tank is a must have!

Kind of nice frosting on the cake for Chris' Sexy Pants resurrection party Gene, thanks for bringing her over. And what's this I hear about a rotary powered XKE?

Thanks to all who came out to make the weekend so productive and fun. Billy and Crit led the team, all did great work: Cathy, Gene, Tim, Tim's friend (darn, forgot his name for the moment), Michael, Bill, Collin, Geraldo, Cory and Last but not Least, Chris!

Holly, where were you!!!???

provided there's fuel in the bowls, the AP should squirt whether the engine is running or not. but like ray said, the pump only works when engine's running. u can straight wire it tho.

The fuel pump doesn't run any time the ignition's on? I'd think he could key-on, not crank the engine, then go and check the accelerator pump, no?

Remember, Quad has a GSL-SE. It requires the door in the AFM to open to trigger the pump to run. However, he has jumpered the fuel pump test connector so the pump will run whenever the key is turned to 'ON' (like the S1/S2 cars) since he no longer has an AFM.

Yea, I have to short the fuel pump to get it to run. And it only seems to run, even shorted, when I try to start the car, or the car is running.

I just got back in from playing with the Holley, and it is sending a good amount of fuel down the throats. It sprays so hard that it actually hits those little tubes that are hanging over the center. When I open up the throttle by hand, it makes a really nasty sucking noise. I'm thinking that the 13B is producing too much suction that the 465 can't handle...

I'll try and use my roommates phone to get a video so you can hear what I'm talking about. Or if someone wants to call me, it might be audible through the phone...

No such thing as too much suction. You'll be building between 25 and 30 inches of vacuum with a healthy engine and good carb. If your AP is working fine and you're building strong vacuum, what exactly is the problem?
