Old guys with 12As club meeting
Front end alignment in progress. You tie a monofilament line to your front tow hook, pull it back along the wheel centers, wrap it around the back end and then forward on the other side along the wheel centers, then tie the line taught to the other front tow hook. Those lines are pointing straight ahead, sharper than a laser. Now all you need to do is make the front wheels do the same when the steering wheel is centered and you'll have a better toe in alignment than you'll get at most shops.

Yes, or vice versa. But I don't think it's different on the FB, right? And even if it is a bit, so what? I mean, even a difference of an inch or two front to back would create a very small angle on the strings (which a proper engineer could calculate but I'm too far out of geometry to do it anymore) I'd guess maybe 1/32"?
That's about what most people put in there on purpose. Some tow in a bit (me), others toe out a bit (like Tim, who wants to enter the turns a little faster than everybody else - whatever).
All I know is this method has worked on all my cars since my first car, a '69 VW bug, to my '67 Volvo and now my FB's - I actually used the string method to correct the alignment the shop did on the White One, when I got it back and it still drifted out on the highway. And after my string tuning the White One tracked perfectly, which is why I'm not happy yet with the Silver One (doing the front wheel bearings and some more fine tuning on the toe this evening - infobit: Autozone stocks inner wheel bearing seals for the 84/85 GSL!)
So here's some news I heard through the grapevine: That Suwanee police man was actually being very nice the other night, wanted to check out the rotaries and see what's happening. I hope someone offered him an OGTA card!
Also tomorrow is, as ya'll know, 09-09-09, whooo hooo!

You guys should come up to the X-roads meet this Sunday. Going to have a little BBQ at the lake.
I'll be coming down for it. It is about the same distance for you as it is for me.
There is also a big event at VIR in early October if you guys are interested. There will be Playboy Bunnies there if you don't care about the races.

I think it is Lake Norman in Mooresville, NC. They are talking about it in the X-roads thread. Not sure yet where we are going to meet up. It would be cool if you could come.

to find out that he had them for so many year's and now all of a sudden they are spoken for!
so...i havent said much since i've been in town, but does anyone have a proper lift or think they can drill my stripped bolt on my starter on? i'd be willing to pay cuz i really want to get it running...
also, i got a brake master cylinder waiting to be put on so it'll be drivable, and was wondering if anyone would be able to help that lives near Snellville?
I'm off Friday and Saturday so anyone more mechanically inclined able to lend a hand? I'd pay for labor.
edit: sorry Kevin the First, but depending on what goes down Friday Saturday, i'll be able to buy the list I wanted from ya granted you still have the parts.

Labor Day Weekend
How was everyones Labor day weekend? Mine was pretty good. I painted the mater bathroom for the misses and on Saturday worked on the 80 SA. Cancer repair - a great big thanks to Re-Speed
Some of the pictures are dark - Sorry old Motorla Razor!
Has anybody noticed this thread has gone viral lately? We've had more than 500 views in the last 24 hours. Why are people so interested in Kent's announcements of upcoming XRoads meets, Billy's shift ****, my quirky front end alignment method, Deuce's starter motor issues and Roland's Master bedroom and Cancer repair?

Nice work but 500 views in 24 hours????
Maybe it's because it's 09-09-09?

Hey some guy in Cumming saw me seafoaming my car (video soon) and I gave him an OGTA card, just wondering if he found this thread. Any reply from you Mr. witness-my-seafoam-and-drive-up-to-tell-me-my-water-seal-is-blown lol. I wanted to see that guy's Rx-7s, he said he has quite a few first gens.
ray, isn't it about anything to keep the thread going?
billy, when i saw ur post last night i thought i would finally be able to help out a member with a part. i'm sure i still have an old **** but all i can find at the moment is older fb ones, those with the shift pattern engraved in the material, not on an insert. but i'll keep looking.

I figured I would just pick one up from summit.......Turns out you can only purchase crap shift ***** from Summit, Jegs or ebay. I am not much into skulls and dice
Not one simple, clean looking shift ****.
check again this morning and found it. first pic fits the small shaft shifter. second is the old style 7 **** fits large shaft, other is a B&M 'T' handle i used in the 73 rx3 i used to have and fits the small shaft. third is just a **** i got that wasn't originally a shifter **** but worked on the large shaft.
