Shoulda come by Circuit City tonight, we had two S4 turbos and an N/A out there. There's usually a few N/A's for sale around East TN. If you're looking for a TII then you'll probably have to look harder and do some traveling. How much are you looking to spend?

I was thinking I wanted a non turbo but now that ive been reading through the site I realize turbo is pretty much the best way to go but Im still pretty much tryin find whatever I can thats close. I had a deal set up to where I was going to drive out to SC to pick one up but by the time I got approved for the loan he sold it the day before. Im lookin for something in the 3 grand range.

It's good to start with an N/A, they're more reliable, more forgiving, and they get better mileage. If you're looking to build a fast machine then you'll want to find a turbo. Building an N/A FC for performance just isn't really that worth it. They make great daily drivers though and they're fun to drive. You could maybe find a S4 turbo for 3 grand if you look hard enough. Probably won't be perfect. Nice ones are expensive. 3 grand for a nice N/A is definitely reasonable. You could probably get a really nice S5 N/A for that much.

My advice is if you really want to buy a turbo and build it, get another daily driver. Driving a TII to work everyday isn't practical and you'll just spend a lot of money on gas and maintenance instead of upgrades.

Yeti, I don't see another meet happening this weekend but I'll be over at Hellbent's on Sunday.

Yeah thats what Ive heard. Ive got a second car already and its a tank. My parents gave me their 97 buick centry when they bought a newer one. So its absolutly no fun but it gets me from point A to point B and Im not afraid of it giving out when I need it. Like I said its a tank. From what Iv read pretty much the best you can do with a N/A is street port it or try to turbo and if you turbo it you might have well just bought a turbo'd one in the first place. So im leaning towards a tII or s5 turbo now.

Sounds like you've done your homework. Good luck with finding a good one. Have you checked the for sale forums on here?

Yeah and Ive placed a WTB thread. found a non running s4 na vert in chat TN but i dont know how to rebuild a rotary yet. Im going to learn but figured id want to start out with a running one. Ive been kinda lurking behind the scenes since I got my MX-3 about 3 years. I just always placed the RX-7 out of my reach till now. Now Im determined to get one.

well, if the verts cheap, and you have a motor in it, you could send the motor over to landers if he is taking rebuilds, he does as cheap as 1000 if its a basic rebuild with no additional parts besides seals needed.

Hmmm. Ive watched a couple videos on rebuilding 13b's why does everyone have someone else do it? How hard could it be. Its like making a double decker sandwich from what Ive seen.

some of us just dont have the time usually, since in theory it does sound easy, but in all practicality a torch and an impact gun most of us dont have to get a few bolts loose, let alone the tools to check the tolerances and such. I'd say about 75% of a rebuild is disassembly and cleaning the old parts.

theres the link to the video. I lost it when my old computer crashed. Ive got an impact wrench and most of the tools to do the rebuild just probably not stuff to check tolerances and most of all free time.

Ok so that link is dead no seeders. thats sad cause it was a good free look at a rebuild. Does your block have to be sent to s rotary specialist to get it ported or can any machine shop do that?

well i wouldnt trust any machine shop to do it just cuz 99% of them have no clue how to port a rotary even if you tell em. A rotary specialist will at least know what kind of porting and will have templates for the porting you want done. Though I think landers wont port unless you're having the core rebuilt at the same time, but you could check around.

Yeah, had a T2, but found out fast my NA was more reliable for daily driving, and with what few mod's ive done it keeps me grinning.

So would you say a NA is fast enough? or do you wish you could have the TII back? Im trying to figure out if I want to go turbo or not. I was sure it was NA at first but now Im all confused.
