The FB I am willing to donate has a 12A in it, and I have a 12A weber/manifold. The Weber is probably too small for the power levels we will need, so we'll have to go much, much bigger. We're going to have to go with a major port, either bridge or PP. We're going to need an upgraded radiator, rollcage, all that other nonsense. Someone better look up the rules for safety requirements for a car that fast: Is a 6 point cage enough? I want to say it isn't, but I really don't know. We'll need a clutch that can handle that kind of power, all sorts of things. There are details to the details of the details that we will have to plan for. We can't all show up with a couple cases of beer, some steaks for the grill and build the car in a weekend. Let's be absolutely realistic here.
^^ aren't you getting ahead of yourself? I thought what you said in the last post was first thing is to see if the owner of rx7club wants to do this? We will never get organized. If you want to be the chief than say so. Other wise we need a plan not some random "this is what we need to have in the car" talk. That should be the last thing to think about right now.

That's why we can't just get a ported 20bTT. They don't come in cracker jack boxes.
thats not the only thing I was talking about but if thats all you saw then whatever. I was saying that mearly because I know how cheap rx7 people can be and a little money insentive is what it may take for some people to open their wallets. It's not my insentive but it may be someones. Anyways to get off of that, if you really want to contribute to the design plan of the car maybe it would be worth it to get people that have actuall experiance with high performance rx7's and have had a or driven in a 10 second car. Random pport/ bridgeport talk is nonsense. We need someone that has been there and done that with thier car. Again this is nothing that hasn't been done before. It doesn't take a pport or a bridge to get to the 10's. a pport is going to be alot of money because of the housings and intake that it requires to run. Maybe some input from crispeed or someone with a little experiance would be better.

And, what I'm telling you is, if we're going to actually try to build a "forum sponsored" car by having everyone believing that whatever they give will somehow be paid back, with interest no less, it's a crock. I mean, no offense, but you can't build a 10 second race car and turn around and sell it for what you put into it, it just can't be done. And with this, there is a very, very real chance the car and everything you put into it could be lost. If people are only going to donate on the chance they will get something back, they should go buy Powerball tickets. You can't build a 10 second race car with hopes, dreams, or warm fuzzy thoughts. It's not cheap, it's not simple, and it's not easy. Don't like what I'm saying or the way I'm saying it? Sorry. I'm being as brutal and blunt as I can be to make sure that the hopeless dreamers stay away and the people who have something to offer can come forth. Are we on the same page now, chief?

nope, because your being very one sided. I'm not saying everyone would get thier money back and no where did I say with interest, thats just dumb. But I think people should be compensated if even a tad for what they did. I think the fabricator(s) builder(s) should know that some compensation for thier hard work may be a good thing. I think if there is a few hundred left then those that gave 10 or 20 bucks should get it back. I'm not saying by selling this car it would pay everyone back by any means. But what I am saying is that the prize money could be distributed. Again this isn't the main thing talk about tonight but I think it is something to talk about. I'm going to bed.
edit: also people would realize that this is only IF we win. We may not win but thats just a risk like anything else.
oh yeah and if we do win we will have two cars to sell not just one.

Back to the beginning people: We are interested in building a car for this, what do we need to be competitive? Where do we need to get to, and how do we get there?
nah it will work, people can have disagreements and still work together. it's the beauty of being on a forum. There are tons of differant oppinions out there. It's a give and take relationship. I know we can do it, we just need the organization
I think this will fail due to no one voice saying what will happen, but having said that I will contribute 50 bucks if this go through. Yeah I know its not much, but I'm a poor college kid. I do hope we could do this though, think it would be interesting.
lol I brought this up as like the last thing on my list to think about but when someone fights me on something I have a tendency not to back down. You are right however and there are way more inportant things to think about like my first 5 or so posts stated. I think I just got off to a bad start with you cause you where batting down everything I was saying and that gets old fast. Anyways I know this can happen we just gotta group together and get a person that is incharge of the donations (cash and parts) and then we need a person incharge of the build. I'm still rooting for team rx7club

How can we build the fastest car possible by relying on the people on this forum?
Forget the show, forget the other forum, forget prizes, fame, money, TV time, even forget the race.
Here's what we have for sure: A 1985 Mazda RX-7, the cost to the build is zero. What can we come up with on this forum to make it as fast as we can possibly make it? Strip this down to it's essence, and give us your ideas.

Is there anyone here with a spare TII engine they would be willing to part with for free or very, very cheap? Remember, there is no budget right now because well, we have no money.
The way I'm looking at this, there's a couple aspects to it:
A) Building the car
B) Sourcing parts for as cheap as possible
C) Fund raising
It sounds like we might even need committees for this stuff.

1. completely gut it, cut all the reinforcements out of it as well
2. drop a 13b with a nice size street or bridgeport ( I have some housings that will do for a rebuild if I can get the guy that wants to buy them to back out )
3. get a cheap-o turbo manifold off of ebay ( will only be used a few times so it should be ok). (maybe we can get a-spec to donate something
)
4. get a masterpower gt45 or I know a place we can get a garrett gt45 for 750 or if anyone has a doner turbo then great!
5. get a corksport 3" catback and maybe just maybe I can buy the stuff for the 3" downpipe
6. we will need an engine management system of some sort and I'm not willing to part with mine (should have a 2step feature on it)
7. some sort of strong rear end with correct gearing (something like 5.12 or so )
8. of course there will need to be a tII trany
Maybe a start.
edit: now that I'm thinking about it maybe we can drop the whole cat back thing and just dump it straight to somewhere after the front tire.
oh yeah and wastegate could be had for pretty cheap if we went with an ebay knock off but I know lots of people dont' like em' but hey are we looking for reliabilty over a long period of time or just a short term win machine?

it's a good price and maybe we need to start the fund raiser to get it. I'll chip in 100 bucks. We need a mod to put this up in red on the top of the forum
actually on second thought I don't think I want anything from the enemy, lol you never know what they may sabotage to get the win
edit: also this kind of sucks because I don't think we should be talking about what should be in the car on this forum, lol no offence to the toyota guy
