Got to finishing up the rew motor today but realized that the REW oilpan was too short. Apparently, the 2nd gen front cover sits out further than the REW front cover?

Will using a 2nd gen oilpan fix this problem or is there something I'm overlooking?

 

correct me if i am wrong...but IIRC the rew has it's own oil pan foot print... think your gonna have to make a plate to adapt your oil pan or make your own custom oil pan

I've put 1st gen pans on REWs with a 1st gen front cover. Only thing you run into is a hole or two that needs to be drilled in the pan. Not sure why it would be any different for a 2nd gen. The thing you will run into is the center iron of the REW has no provision for the 2nd gen engine mounts.

Is this for your 1st gen? How is the engine mounted?

 

Yes, it's for my 1st gen. It's mounted by the front cover.

I don't mind drilling a few holes, but would hate to have to make a pan. I'm tired of welding..

 

I have an rew with a first gen front cover with a gslse oil pan with front mount!
It will have a dist. location but you can work with that. Your a smart fella!

REW Block with 3mm seals, extra dowels and I did a Judge Ito Large Streetport to it. I wasn't ready for the semi pport right now.

I also have a new 80mm turbo going on.

 

Yes, it's the E&J waterpump. The quality of their parts is pretty amazing.

Which stock flywheel do I need to use?

I currently have a stock S4 TII Flywheel (Stamped 318) but I don't think I can use that.

Sell the t11 trannie and clutch and go rew all the way! then when you break its already set up! And its stronger i think?

 

Whenever you use a stock flywheel it has to match the type of rotors and rotating assy your usuing. If your using REW rotors and front counterweight then you must use a stock REW flywheel. The only other route would be an aftermarket flywheel with a REW rear counterweight.

 

I've heard the TII transmission will hold faster/higher horsepower shifts than the 3rd gen transmission.

I'm not swapping transmissions right now, I don't feel like having another driveshaft made (Length wise). The only time I'll change the driveshaft is to go automatic.

Everyone here is saying to use a S5 TII Flywheel with the REW.

Looking at Mazdatrix's website, the S5 and REW rear counter weights are the same. So, wouldn't that mean I need to use a S5 TII Flywheel?

You can use the S5 TII or one from a 3rd gen. They're weighted the same.

My engine is a REW and i'm using turbo II front cover..

I took the front of a turbo II oil pan and the rear of the REW oil pan and welded them together..

So now i have a hybrid oil pan.. All the factory bolts are in place..
