Talking R26b

Did they ever sell the Infamous Bad *** R26B, the 4 rotor killing machine that made them ban rotary at lemans after rotary taught those piston punks what racing was all about. If so someone tell me where I can get my hands on this 700hp monster

I thought you could buy 13J engines from Mazda? Something like $20-40k though.

AFAIK there are two different four rotors, the R26B and the 13J... I *think* you can buy the 13J.

At any rate you are talking major bucks, for the cost of just the engine you'd be close to having a 700hp 2-rotor or 3-rotor swapped in.

Rotary Performance in Dallas has a 4 rotor sitting in a crate in storage. They've had it for over 10 years and never did anything with it. See if they want to sell it.

Im sure you can get a 4 rotor in several places. Check with Jim Downing he runs those 4 rotor kudzu's. He has to get his parts somewhere.

You can get a 4-rotor but it won't be the R26B in any way. That engine has systems on it that have never been on a production rotary. and its not just the 3 plugs per rotor. They had a engine load varible ignition a rpm dependant varible intake track that would contract aand extend to get more top end while preseving low-end torque. It was also a massive p-port and had what they called p-port direct injection for faster response and better fuel consumption. they had several different special coatings within the engines to reduce friction enough to have a redline of 9K (in a 4-rotor thats phenominal! because of e-shaft flex) The e-shaft was a special 3 section model that could resist flex enough to stay together at high rpms, they used ceramic racing apex seals. If you have ever stared at that engine for hours like I have and read the tech articles on it its mazdas engineering masterpeice. Its just a work of mechanical art. now all of those would be hard to come by on just a 4-rotor built with mostly 13B parts.

The r26b wasn't the most powerful car there but the engine was far superior in the power to weight game.

Acceleration of the 787B is impressive, as it weighs 800kg, giving it a power to weight ratio of 1.2kg/bhp (2.6lb/bhp).
As a comparison consider the following: Ferrari F40 2.6kg/bhp (5.7lb/bhp), Porsche 911 turbo 4.5kg/bhp (9.9lb/bhp)
This will allow a 0-100m (328ft) sprint in ~2.5 seconds, and a 1/4 mile with a terminal speed of 250km/h (155mph) - somewhere around 9 seconds!
(actually maybe about 10 or 11, as the car is not set up for drag racing)

These are why I think of it as art work.

It didn't win because of power/weight, it won because of power/reliability (rotaries are bulletproof) and power/fuel economy.

In short, you have 24 hours in which to break and you have a set amount of fuel that you are allowed to lose. Whoever goes the farthest in 24 hours wins. This demands not only speed, but reliability and economy.

I don't count ANY 4 rotor as an "R26B".&nbsp An "R26B" in my book is a 4 rotor with the variable length tract intake WITH control program.
