Saw this at Rotorhead.ca:
Mazda confirms new RX-7
Joe Bakaj (Product development) says the lightweight performer will be positioned above the RX-8, so expect to pay a price premium. It won't be the simple, barebones car the X605 (SA/FB) was, but then it isn't 1978 either. The two-door coupe will use the RX-8’s rotary engine. In current form the RENESIS develops between 189bhp and 228bhp, but Mazda is hoping to get more power from it in the future.
Mr. Bakaj has given no timescale on this project, but has said it is looking at the possibility of turbocharging or supercharging the engine to get more from it. As Rotorhead readers know, Mazdaspeed has been working on a supercharged RENESIS already, with a testbed RX-8 seen on the track.

this is even older then a year, the RX-8 is moving to a 16B DPI variant in the next 1-2 years. At best you can say , 'there may be an RX-7', That's it.

There is no credible evidence anywhere to suggest that the rotary is getting larger. That's a rumor. Even over at the 8 club there is arguing about a 15B variant but it is only over how it would be done and not actually talking about them making one. The original person that said that was a forum member who was speculating. There is evidence that it may be getting direct injection in the fairly near future though.

Well it would increase hp and torque. It will have more power due to fact it will be able to stay at near Stoic with the proper controls. Which eliminates the need for all the hp eating emissions controls and what not. You can increase the porting size and compression because you don't have to worry about knock, if the the direct injection is near TDC. Plus if you have overlap on the intake-exhaust ports and force feed it you can eliminate the need for an air pump.

The current production GDI engines realize more torque through being able to use higher compression ratio or more boost at the same knock resistance as stated above.
Actually, MORE emmissions controls are associated with the GDI engines as the main advantage in fuel economy is that in economy mode they can keep the throttle plate wide open and control power levels by how much fuel they are injecting (more lean for less power- less lean for more power) This helps fuel economy both by running very lean at times and reducing the pumping losses involved with a throttled system-BUT this means NOX emmission levels are increased when the AF is below stoich.
One method of dealing with these increased emmissions is a special catylitic that momentarily "stores" the NOX.
Reason US and Europe doesn't have GDI on market already like Japan is we have too much sulfur in the fuel and it kills the special catylitics.
