Question intercooler upgrade?

im interested in getting an intercooler upgrade but I cant decide on which one. right now i only have a drop in k+n and an M2 DP.
I also will have a apexi pfc before i get an intercooler.
Should i go front mount or not? and is the base map (pfc) good for an intercooler ? what hp gains can i expect?

Usually you need to upgrade the fuel system when upgrading the IC. You might look into what it would cost to upgrade your fuel pump and injectors just in case.

There is some posting here with what seems to be a fuel problem:

You might take a read through that thread.

Front mounts are good, that is what I am going to go with once I save up the money. I am getting other things first though...cat back exhaust, pulleys, clutch, flywheel, ecu, etc. You are definately going to want to upgrade your fuel system and probably get an ecu soon.

I have been happy with my GReddy SMIC and I know my friend rich has been happy with his M2 large. If you have the $ for the FMIC and install $ or the know how on how to stick it in, do it early it will help with hp my friend had less than i did but had a FMIC and his seemed just as fast or faster than mine. But if you dont want to drop the extra cash go SMIC.
Happy Rotoring,
Ryker

injectors size.

What "size" injectors would you expect to upgrade to when you get a FMIC? Also, i was thinking about getting the APEXi GT FMIC, what other mods would be involved in getting that IC or any FMIC for that matter? Thanks.

Where can I find the Apexi GT FMIC? I cann't seem to find it anywhere.
Typically people upgrade their injectors to 1300 cc, about $200 a piece from Rx7Store.net, but there are also 1600cc but if you go this route you will need to upgrade your fuel rails and that is a pain, or so I hear. Make sure you upgrade your fuel pump in order to supply the gas.
Some one said that they push 14psi on stock fuel pump and injectors and still have a problem with too much fuel. I would check into it, let me know what you find.

If you are sticking with your stock intake, that will limit your choices to a SMIC by Blitz, Greddy, SR (small), or MS, with Greddy being the most popular choice. With a stock intake + K&N, dp, and one of those intercoolers, you won't need to upgrade your injectors either, although you should get an ecu.

i do plan on getting an intake soon, maybe M2, and i moved my battery to rear bin.also my GB Power FC should be in any day; im kind of leaning toward m2 medium or large IC- anyone know whats the difference in performance and fit between the two ?

The Apexi intercooler has been on backorder for the past month. Hopefully will be here in the next few weeks.

The M2 Large is more resistant to heat soak, the disadvantage being it is larger, so lag will go up a bit. Pressure drop with the revised core (fixed long time ago, but something to be aware of if buying used) should be the same for both. The Medium will work with a stock mount battery, the Large will not (not a problem for you though). Since you have the space, I'd recommend a large. The large and medium both only work with the M2 intake and other similarly sized intakes (Pettit, N-tech, CWC, RX-7 Fashion, maybe a few others)

This is simply not true. I have the new type Greddy FMIC and I can honestly tell ya that, I can hardly feel any difference in lag, if any.
