Bridge port is over rated?
We just built a bridge port for a customer and the results were staggering. Here is an overlay of aT04R bridge port vs.T78 street port. This same car only made 380's @14psi before we ported/built the engine.
I read this whole thread and was actually afraid to post anything with soo much hostility going back and forth , but I will anyway.
I personally witnessed a car make 508+ Hp with a full bridge at 18 psi boost , the guy said it was too "rough" for him to drive daily so he pulled the motor and put in a street port , everything else remained as it was ....... he barely crossed 400 when he dynoed!
Another with a full race tubbed car made somewhere around 623 with a GT42 at 28psi , he runs mid 8's consistently . After selling his whole set up he did a street port so he could keep the car running while he worked on his full peripheral port motor , with the street port he made 504 at 26psi boost , everything else the same , his et has now moved up to 9.5 secs!
And no I do not have any dyno charts to post up , U can take it or leave it , but this is what happened!
I personally had a street port , half bridge and now a semi peri. , although I was hampered by a lot of little problems ( some big ones too )that prevented me from getting them to their full potential , I can still honestly say that the bigger ports are superior in every way . I will not bother to get into it , as it has been stated time and time again in this thread , just keep in mind that there are a lot of "posers" who never even sat in a "ported car" who are just repeating what they hear .
There is one thing I cannot understand though ..this thing about "all that" power before 4000 rpm , whats up with that ? how much more power do you guys have,10 or 20 ? this makes NO difference in the real world unless you intend to pull a trailer or something and not use your gears!
In fact a properly tuned motor goes through the revs and hits the limiter extremely fast , 4K goes by in less than one second I mean if I wanted all that power under 4K , I wouldn't have bought a ROTARY in the first place, I would have gone out and look for a diesel powered car ! If u think your ported motor is doggy down low , then just down shift and be done with it ! I am sure a sp wouldn't be able to run with you then with ALL their low end power !

I wonder how much more (or less )U would have made with a bridge eh Ernie?

At 4k rpm the bridges are not really any different. If anything they are a little better. Now if we're talking about around 2k rpm then that's another story.
Some people like big breast some like small breast. Others like blondes, red heads etc. To each their own. Diversity is what makes the world a lovely place.
funny
This is crazy talk!!!! how in the world can a streeet port make more power than a BP...ok then i will tell all my friends to remove the stage 3 cams etc. and put in stage 1 cams...and of course all my rotary people should remove their winnning PP egines and replace them with SP ones.....ohhhhh and I will take some of the overrated monster bridge port engines that kill some PP guys and put in the famed streeet port...hahhaahhahahahahaha......
listen the guy that started this talk probably is refering to a turbo set up on the streeet where drivablitiy and max power are requuired.........in that reference maybe i can see truth...
but power is power and a guy can make 250 with street port and turbo...same as a guy with just a BP.......or a guy can make 400 hp with a turbo set up SP while a guy with a BP can make the same with a turbo using a smaller turbo......so as you can see there are numouros variables that can change this argument in any favor......my 2 pennies

Of course I drive under 4K Ted , but I also drive OVER 4000RPM's TOO !!!.........where is your rev limiter set Ted ? at 4000RPM ?
When I'm driving at 4000RPM , I'm either pulling off from a light , or pulling into or out of the mall car park , or i'm inching along in traffic !......... in all those situations , "all the power" isn't needed , I'm not a "traffic light racer" ....., but still on the odd occasion when I decide to teach someone some manners ,I totally embarrass those turboed CIVICs and 280HP STi's and EVOS , NONE of them could even come close ! and I'm not even talking about the highway here, thats a totally different story that always ends in my favour ! When I do need the power , you bet your *** it ise right there with my BIG ported motor !
Just for the record , my half bridge ported motor drove BETTER than the street port did once it is above 2K rpms (if the loand on the motor is light) but it idled at 1300 RPM , so geting past 2K isnt even an issue , it did some times get a little jerky , but I found out that that problem was actually a tuning issue, fix the vacuum part of the map , and it becomes almost as smoothe as a street port.
I atually busted a diff before I got to 5K while going up a hill and that was with NO boost ! sooooooo...... what do you think would have caused that ?
All those big V8 guys , KNOW that they need to increase lift and duration to make power ! they've been doing it since time began , so whats your problem ?

You guys seem to have selective hearing...or reading.
Go reread what I wrote and try and comprehend what I'm trying to say.
Do I drive over 4kRPM?
Yes, but that's like 1% of the total driving I do.
Your description of how you drive sounds like you're a total maniac on the road, period.

so what?

Ted is not Mr. street port, He is Mr. Stock
Ted does 99% of his driving at or under 4K lol
sounds like you have a RX-7 as a commuter car and not a performance car
you should stick to stock which I pretty damm sure is it close to it
Hey thats cool your a "general" rotary mechanic
others prefer to be into "rotary performance"
Like Chris said each to there own..
I have a "commute and daily driver" I build my 7's for speed

I have been working on the perfect port for some time now. I has the torque of a 455 Pontiac, the top end of a Honda F1 engine, braps like a j-bridge or purrs like a stock port (depending on mood), gets 45 miles to the gallon, and shoots 10 foot flames out the exhaust every time you shift.
Should be ready in a week or so.
