SRT-4 goes down! barely...

This is by far the best race I've ever had. I was on LOW boost (10 psi)

It was around 12:00 pm sunday afternoon and I was going back to my house after purchasing some equipment for my mountain bike. I'm on a two lane road and there is a stock looking silver SRT-4 in front of me. I actually didn't pay him no mind since he looked stock and stock guys don't really ever want to play.

The road opened up to 4 lanes and I move over to the lane adjacent to him to pass, since he is just cruising. I guess he hadn't seen me cruising behind him because as soon as I pass him he down shifts, gets right next to me and let's off his BOV. His engine didn't sound stock and neither did his BOV (loud chirping sound) cool. But we are coming up to a stop sign. At the stop sign he reved at me again (lol) I look over and said to him "let's do this from a roll, I don't get traction because I have some cheap as tires", he says "ok". I glance at my PFC commander and my intake temps are 43 Deg. Stupid warm weather and surface streets... But for some reason I really wanted to do LOW boost run I can't explain why I just wanted to run that way.

Ok ahead of us is nothing but a long deserted straight away and nobody out .

We begin to roll, I'm at 4K on first and waiting for him to gun it. He goes for it and automatically I WOT. We are dead even all though first. Shift to second and we are still EVEN 4K, 5K, 6K, and finally I begin to INCH forward... then he shifts and falls back a little bit more. ******* streetport do your job! I shift at almost 8k (pulls all the way till redline) and he is at my door. Once on third, I keep pulling ever so slowly and we shut down soon after (too fast for surface streets). He was at my rear tire at the time we shut down. Good race!

We pull up to the light. The dude looks over with kinda surprised look on his face and says:

him: "What have you done to that thing?"
me: "some minor things"
him: "some minor things huh?" and kinda smirks
me: "yeah nothing too crazy, but I gotta tell you that I was runing low boost" (I gotta let it be known that there's more )
him: "really low boost?"
me: "yeah, but honestly my high boost isn't all that high, it just makes the car a little faster" (I didn't want to come across as a dick). Then I said "dude your car is fast bro! Next time that I run into one you guys I'll be running high boost for sure!"

Then the light turn green. And he said "thanks bro, later", I waved back to him and said "lates". He turned right and I kept on that road. Cool guy. BTW my high boost setting is 12 psi.

mods:

Go fast Mods:

M2 CAI
PFS SMIC
Non-Sequential Twins

yeah a camera would have been perfect. Bright sunny day and all. No I didn't ask what mods he had because I didn't tell him what I had . I actually wanted to pull over and check out his car so we could have a real onversation. But as the conversation turned to his car, the light turned green he said good bye. Oh well.

I want to say yes... deep grumble with slight popping. His car really came alive when he down shifted.

so what's with the mild v8 sound?

ok... At idle I could not hear him over my exhaust (resonated MP & RB duals). But when he revved his engine it sounded mean as **** that's for sure. Very similar to that vid.

I just did a quick google and their aftermarket exhausts can look really low key:

http://www.bbtriflo.com/New/auto-htm...page=srt4.html

that would explain why the car looked stock to me.

hey guys, new to the forum but i've got an '04 SRT-4 and also an '87 RX-7 N/A (SCCA road racing ).

First off good kill! Yeah it's tough to tell a stock SRT to a modded one. Alot of guys do the aftermarket exhaust that looks exactly like the stock ones, just its a 3" pipe all the way back that does the dual tip split in the rear. What kind of ¼ mile times do you do (if you've been to the track yet)? I could give ya a rough estimate of what kinda mods that SRT Would of had and/or the power it's putting down.

Just be careful coming up to a stock-looking SRT and think it's stock. I have 2 friends with the Mopar Stage-3 upgrade kit (along with the many other SRT's with big turbo upgrades that put them well over the 400hp mark ) which gives a new computer, turbo, exhaust manifold, seudo- fuel return, and an optional intercooler sprayer. They put down 320whp out of the box. With tuning they're in the upper 300's. It's nice to hear that there's more than 1 SRT out there that isn't a complete f'tard. lol

the 3rd gen RX-7 is my dream car, i settled for a boosted neon. lol

The sad thing is that you could have had the FD for less than the ladybug.

there's a difference when buying from a dealer and when buying from private sellers.

IT's not a total loss, i still have an 2g RX-7 that i use for SCCA racing... of course it's still not the same as being able to rev to 9 grand on the street.

although i love the feeling of owning a neon and being able to beat a large portion of cars on the road. lol

I know it's ignorant, but i wouldn't want to race an SRT4 just incase he would beat me. I don't even like to look at 'em.

Well given my mods at 10 psi I should be anywhere from 280-300 RWHP (I think it's closer to 280 though . The SRT-4 I think weighs like 100 LBS more than the FD. *but* I have these heavy *** rims (and I ain't the lightest guy anymore lol). So I would say that we were pretty close in HP.

dont get me wrong, if you look at my other posts, youll see i actually respect srt4s. Just wish they redisigned.

as for total loss, not so much, fc and and srt4 aint a bad combo.

lol, now that's just funny.

And henessey, i just wish i could drive both on the road. Yeah when i first got my SRT i had to change the looks of it quickly, those stupid big headlights just make it look like a bubbly happy car. I mean i'm only at like 275whp or so, although i've got stuff coming that will push me over 300 in the next few weeks But i just dont see a point in putting tons and tons of hp into a FWD car. There's SRT's with 340whp that are doing 11sec passes and there are 600whp SRT's doing 11sec passes. beyond me.

Oh and montego, always race an SRT from a dig, even if your tires are crap. traction > SRT-4. lol

Thanks for being friendly to an outsider, hopefully i can learn some more about these rotary engines.

I don't doubt that *but* I have some "in the mean time" tires on my car because I'm changing rims ( to a different size). I get ZERO traction on first from a dig. I will literally spin all through the gear . Even from a roll, I sometimes lose traction (on first of course). Once I put my new rims on with quality tires it will be a different story.

My buddy has porsche boxter and we race all time from a dig. At the end of first he always gains one car ahead of me! On second I catch him, on third he is dust... From a roll he has no chance.
