I agree with what everyone is saying, but alot of you guys are assuming he was racing or whatever. It clearly stated in the report that they are not sure if speed was a factor. You'd know right off the bat if speed/racing was a factory, so there's apparently more to the story. Either way, he shouldn't of been driving a viper. Alot of older men can't even handle the cars, and they arn't the easiest vehicle to drive, even under normal circumstances.

WTF were the parents doing handing over the keys to something like that? They must have wanted their kid to get killed. That father should kick himself in the *** for being so retarded. Yes the kid was probably driving fast and being stupid, BUT if you were 16 and you got the keys to a 500hp car wouldnt you open it up as well??? Jesus the father had to be drunk when he gave up the keys or wanted his son to die. The most unfortunate part is that the driver didnt die, his innocent passenger did. Thats the worst part.

I always hate these threads. Everyone always knows about a "kid" that dies in a car they can't handle. But there is always 300 kids who can handle their 200+hp cars and are responsible. They learned the "great power and great resposibility" bit and know not to exceed their skill.

I guess that's how it goes. It does'nt matter how small the percentage is, if one kid does something stupid, all kids are stupid.

Even at 16, if I were given a 500hp car sure I'd open it up, either illegaly at 3 in the morning on a straight stretch of highway that was at least 10 miles long or at the track.

Its not the "kids" fault. Someone should have have taught him better. At our driving school, instructor has a talk with kids under 18 who learning about the weapon they are trying to control. No one is born knowing not to do stupid stuff. You have to be taught what's wrong and what's right.

Why is Ken Gushi, a 16 year old, a proffesional driver? Because his dad taught him everything there is(including being responsible) about cars since the kid could talk. Its called parenting. Its why there's a guy on my street who owns a shop and slowly teaching his kid about cars and the responsibility coupled with them. He drives a 4door accord. The accord is tuned with suspension and a H22 swap. Perfect for a begginer. He and his son have been doing father-son runs at the track where his dad educates him about following the quickest lines, waiting to pass safely, and driver courtesy. I wish every kid had father that would teach them how to drive effectivly and safely and any situation. The world would be a better place*.

* As in there would'nt be 3 cars next to eachother in 3 three lanes going the same speed and cause major traffic behind them.

First of all the kid was 18, second of all why you call the passenger innocent? Almost all my friends have pretty quick cars, everytime each of us either do a certain mod or upgrade to the cars, we go for a ride. If someone has a 500hp 7 and the owner asks you if you want to go for a ride and you say yes, if he were to crash or you were to get injured, would you be innocent??? I think not. Thats what most likely happend here. The friend got a new viper, and he was like o take me for a ride. I dont think the friend wanted to ride in the car to see how smooth the ride is, or to see how well the stock sound system was.

I remeber one time when I was on my way to school. I saw some girl who didn't know how to drive her new mustang go from making a simple right hand turn to being totally turned around. she gave her car just a little to much gass in the rain and spun it around and put the car up on the curb. It was hilarious. She didn't get hurt just startled.

I agree, im sure the passenger wanted to see how fast it was. My point was that first, the driver didnt die, and second if i was going to die I would at least want to be driving the car. I say innocent because he didnt have a part of wrecking the car. He couldnt do anything to prevent it, other than not riding in it.

I have to agree with "Whats going through those parents heads" im only 17 and I realize that giving a car with that much power to a young kid is foolish... A kid at my school has a 400 hp chevy nova and just seeing the way he drives/trys to drive is pretty scary.... He tryed doing a burnout infront of our school and forgot to straighten the wheels and just about smoked a parked car... and get this, his parents were in the car with him... WTF is going through these parent's heads???

Its one thing if you are responsible and know how to handle the vehicle but its another thing when you just hand over the keys to a inexperienced teen. But in this case I really doubt that charges will be filed since the passenger was dumb enough not to where a seat belt, kinda sad because that desition is what made him lose his life...

hells yes
any car that has power on oversteer is a bad bad idea for inexperienced drivers [porsche, viper, rx-7 (fd atleast)]
You get the back end moving and then: give it too much gas you spin, jump off the throttle (the natural reaction) you spin, overcorrect while doing either, you spin.
I think its more this kind of handling characteristic that is the problem. Its also what makes it the most fun to drive and why i own an FD, but unless you have been karting as a kid for years and years you need something with a big margin of error when you are learning.

If said 16 year old is an idiot, a camel is too much. As someone had previously said, it depends on the individual judgement.

I'm 17 and i own a 93 Rx7. But i also SCCA race so i know what it feels like when you're pushing a car to its limits. That and i've seen what happens when people act stupid. Had a lot of people killed at my school because of cars.

Im surprised nobody talked about how the passenger wasnt wearing his seatbelt. The driver was wearing one and survived. Hey, if you want to get in a car and not wear a seatbelt, its your own problem. Even if they were driving completely fine, a ******* dog could come running out to the road and **** you over. Needless to say, the death would have been provented had he been wearing a seatbelt. Dont blame it on just the driver. Hey, i have a 435 whp rx7 and EVERYTIME i have a passenger get in the car, i tell them to put there seatbelt on, if they refuse its off my concience.
