A Real Kill involving a Viper

This happened a few weeks ago but i thought i should post anyways.

Here's the link for the Viper. Watch the news report.

http://www.theiowachannel.com/news/4280351/detail.html

The dad is stupid to give his son a Viper. And just 2 years ago, three teens died at my school in an Integra when they came off a turn doing 125 and went into the grass until they hit a huge utility pole. All were killed except driver.

wtf kind of negligent parent purchases anything like a Viper for a child. Has anyone checked to see if the dad had a $5,000,000 life insurance policy on the kid??

WolfpackFD3S 04-05-05 10:31 AM

Yeah, there is one guy here at NCSU that has a Viper and a Supra, both given to him by his parents. What the hell were his parents thinking, Vipers are known to be hard to handle, more so than a lot of cars, especially for young drivers.

Yeah Vipers have got to be the most ass happy cars on earth. Thats not something you give a kid. I'm saying this as a 17 year old.

Wargasm 04-05-05 08:14 PM

I went to a very snooty high school where it was COMMON for the kids to drive BMW, Mercedes, even some Porsches and NSXs, etc... Nearly every kid that got anything better than 125 hp wrecked it within 2 years, and at least two were killed that I can remember.

Giving a fast car to a kid is RETARDED. I wouldn't even give my kid a 200 hp car, let alone a 500 hp car.

TheGreatLouisianaRoadkill 04-05-05 08:29 PM

there use to be a kid that went to the same highschool as me and he would drive his dad's viper to school now and then. i dont care how responsible your kid is, i seriously doubt he can handle a Viper or any other high HP car.

You guys are completely missing the point:

It's not the fact that he was 17 and driving a Viper. Or an Integra. Or a Moped.
It's the fact that he was driving recklessly and stupid on the street. And it killed his friend.

It's easy to blame the parents or the kid or peer pressure. But the truth is, you might want to start by looking at your own actions too:

well I didnt see you out on the cruise, of course weaving in and out of traffic on 635 at 130mph may be to much for some people.

Practically the entire "Kills" section is full of the same thing that killed that kid.

skrewloose78 04-05-05 08:41 PM

thats pretty stupid what kind of parent gives his spoiled teenager a car like that? he only had it for a few hours before he totaled it and killed his best friend.

I'm ashamed to say, unfortunately, yes. Twice. Several years ago.

Both were single, unplanned events on completely empty stretches of interstate, but that doesn't make it OK. It was a poor decision and I definately am in no hurry to make the same mistake again. Simply too many unexpected things can happen at absurd speeds that you can't plan for....

And if it only kills you, you're lucky.

rxseven07 04-05-05 11:18 PM

whatever, racing and not racing, if you wreck, you can kill your self and others even if your doing 50mph, or even 70mph on the interstate, im tired of you old asses bitching about street racing, yeah its illegal, but so is not using your blinker, but i see people do it everyday. you guys suck

Thats true, but your still missing the whole point. Street racing increases the chance of having an accident, not using your blinker increases the chance of an accident. Driving the speed limit, and following traffic laws DECREASES your chances. Sheesh. Just because alot of people don't use their blinkers doesn't make it ok for you and everyone else to.

I'm sorry, but you my friend, are stupid. It's because of people that think like you that causes accidents. If you want to go kill yourself in your car, be my guest, but when it involves killing someone else at your stupidity, it's a whole other story.

rxseven07 04-06-05 12:02 AM

off of old hickory. like 10 mins from downtown

birdy01 04-06-05 10:51 AM

dude some kids can't even handle a civic or integra, WTF a viper?

ptrhahn 04-06-05 11:03 AM

Sure, you can wreck anything if you drive stupidly.... but the demands on the driver, and consequences for screwing up are alot higher in a car like a Viper.

If i might step onto my soap box for a minute:

There's really no point in voting for "family values" or fretting about whether or not a couple of gay guys get married in your neighborhood because you're worried about the values your kids might grow up with, if you're then just going to turn around and teach them bad lessons and shitty values by buying them a fucking Viper when they turn 16, handing them 50 bucks for dinner, and disapearing...

QFT. Amen, brother.

scratchjunkie 04-06-05 11:30 AM

wow, i bet the father and son must feel really stupid right now.

mark57 04-06-05 03:48 PM

The father and son will be over it in a week and their attorney will make them out to be the victims in the court and local media. Ho-hum.

JEC-31 04-10-05 12:20 AM

I saw a news article after 2F2F came out, where they blamed the movie for the death of a 16 year old kid...

...who was driving his dad's '91 Corvette. With permission.

Oh yeah, I believe that one. :rlaugh:

speedjunkie 04-10-05 11:11 PM

I think this would be a good plug for Darwin's theory, survival of the fittest, although an accident can happen to the smartest of people. But then again, "why tiptoe through life only to arrive safely at death?"

Although, if you kill someone else, that doesn't really apply.

855m0n0 04-11-05 09:42 AM

Speedjunkie I am with you one the survival of the fittest. I have no issues with people removing themself from the gene pool. My entire issue with this is the fact that the father's neglegence in letting a minor drive a 500hp sports car resulted in the death of a child that was not his own.

This was down here, like five minutes from where I live. Anyways, it was this whole big ordeal, the dad was a cop and made it seem like him and his family were victims. Anyways, not everybody can handle a car, especially a 500hp torqy monster like the viper. Like somebody said, most young people cant even handle fwd 100hp cars... Now I dont want to souind like a hipacryt(sp?) Im 20, but my parents didnt want to buy me 300tt cuz it was too fast, they wouldnt let me get a bike, and then my first car was a 2000 accord. I have seen many of my friends in racing related accidents, I have seen many people die at my school, and I was racing someone when they crashed into a pole. Street racing is dangerous, but I do it sometimes. But I do not believe that its anybody's fault when something like this happens, except the driver or the passenger. I can almost guarantee that the passenger wasnt being held against his will, in the car. If someone knows you race and how you drive and they get in the car, then its like them giving an
implied consent to accept how you drive.
