FD vs. 5.0

So I went to Silver Dollar today. I have never drag raced before so I figure that I will not fare all that well. Anyway. I pull up with my full interior, A/C, street tire RX-7 to the land of Gutted V8 cars with slicks. So I am staged and I hear and see this massive burn out and all of this exhaust noise coming from behind. I am thinking that I am going to get my *** handed to me. He had slicks and gets me off the line. I have no traction in 1st and 2nd (crappy sumitomo 245 V rated rubber) but hookup in 3rd. Around the 1/8 mile mark I catch up to him. Then I leave him like he was standing there taking a leak.

Him 14.054 at 99.09mph
Me 12.855 at 115.54mph

I also raced a Camaro and lost...

Camaro was 12.528 at 115.41
Me 12.643 at 117.89 (1st and 2nd still worthless)

There were a couple of other imports there, (all running high 14s or slower) so it was pretty cool being the fastest import and the fastest street tire car there all day. The car isnt tuned well yet (base map with 10.0:1-10.3:1 AFR) and I was only running 14psi. I am hoping that with tuning and more boost will get the car in the 11s on street tires.

Jeez, man, get some real tires. 245-width Sumitomos with a GT35?

Yea I know they suck!! I want to get something better but I have 17X8 SSR A2 rims and I cant find anyone with two 17X9.5 SSR A2 rims that I can buy so that I can get some decen rubber in the back.

Turns out there was another street tire car there that ran a 12.1. So I was actually the 2nd fastest street tire car there.

That's crazy.

Those are great times considering you were on crappy street tires.

I hope so. 11s with full interior, A/C, full tank of gas, auto-X/road race suspension setup, and street tires would be cool!!

Think about it 12.643 at 117.89 with basically no traction in 1st and 2nd.

My friend had the same problem almost. He had a supercharged 5.0 running 13.9 because he had no traction in 1st and 2nd. He bought some slicks and he was hittinf mid 12's.
I don't see why you can drop .7. Yeah, I know there's a bid difference going from high thirteens to mid twelves than going from mid twelves to high evelens, but it could happen.

I should gain quite a bit of power with 2 more psi of boost and AFRs in the low 11s instead of at 10:1 -10.3:1. Hopefully between new wider rubber and the extra power I can pull 11s. It is really only 6/10th of a second we are talking about here. I don't know what the Bose system weights (prob not much) but that is going bye bye as soon as I have the cash for a "real", stereo.

My friend picked up 1.2 seconds when he went from street tires to slicks, but I really like my axels. I also drive to the track and I don't know where you could fit slicks in an FD.

In the end I am not building a drag car but want the "bragging rights" of being able to say "yea, my daily driver runs 11s on street tires and pump gas".

Every .1 you cut from your 60', you cut .2 from your ET.
