just got my car back a couple days ago from a great tune from my friends at Draftech in Queens,ny. Car has a fresh rebuilt street port and a t04s turbo that pulled 410rwhp at 18psi. Going back home a get this brand new black evo 9 tailing me,we played catch up until traffic cleared..and when it did we did a 30mph roll and I dropped to second..I was suprised I pulled on him at every gear and by the time I hit 4th gear it was all over doing 120mph with him about 10 car lengths behind..he was a sport and gave me a thumbs up..but the look on his face was priceless..looked like he was about to cry

But yeah, an FD with a DP/intake would've been a better race with a stock EVO from a 30mph roll, not your 400+whp FD.

Exactly. The only real competitors I've found are Supras and Vettes. Short of heavily modified Porsches or Stangs, there really aren't many cars out there that will give a nicely modded FD a run for it's money. I realized this very quickly, and was very happy but also very disappointed...virtually every race became a no-contest waste of gas...lol

I never looked at it as a waste of gas. I preferred to look at it as crushing the dreams and aspirations of any arrogant yahoo who dared challenge me . Back when I was stationed in Texas, I used to take on all challengers on the highway, and lost only twice---once to a turbo stang, and once to a zx11r. Otherwise, it was complete domination for 5 years. Now, no one really messes with me....perhaps it's b/c my exhaust sounds like a chainsaw from the pits of hell ?

 

Well it's scary when you realize just how fast the FD is, and how there's very little *real* competition out there. To keep myself entertained, I'd race ppl w/o downshifting Dead serious. I have a few kills in FIFTH GEAR...I kid you not

 

Nice kill. Though with 160 or so more whp and several hundred pounds less in vehicle weight, I would expect you to put more than 10 car lengths through 3 gears.

If you're ever in AZ, I'll let you race my Evo any way you want (roll, dig, whatever). I will even spot you 10 car lengths.

Haha... Nice. I think you might lose though. 10 car-lengths? I think you might have an inflated ego... Taking down a 400+whp FD with a 10 car-length lead would not be an easy task, even if you've got 600+whp EVO. Especially from a roll.

 

I would let you race my buddy with his really old Evo 3. I think his personal best is 8.76 at 166.7mph.

 

Ok. Then what do you call people who consider it a kill when they beat a much heavier car that has much less whp? When I had my FC, I didn't really consider it a kill unless it was a fair contest.

I may have a little bit of an inflated ego. My car is pretty fast so I just wanted to make things fair. If he wants to go heads up then that's fine with me too. I would be curious to see how a 600+ whp Evo fairs against a 400 whp FD. Right now my car doesn't really open up until 4th gear anyway so top end should be fun with him having the decided advantage in aerodynamics.

AMS ran a 9.46. What does a 20b fd run? Btw, they have 2 Evos with over 900whp. Buschur will soon be in the 8's with their 900+ whp Evo so you may want to see that race as well.

Well, considering the fact that I saw a street-driven 13BREW FD cut a 9.9 quarter, the very first time I went to the track, I think it's safe to say that a 20B'd FD has a stronger potential... Then again, any car can run 9's with the right mods/money. Also, it depends on what "class" or whatever you'd allow. There are many, many Rx7's (3-rotors or not) that run much lower than a 9.4 quarter... Street-driven/full trim though? I have no idea.

A 600whp any car would be unbelievably fast...

 

ok ok. I would love to know more about your lil monster. For some reason I don't think you are telling me everything that I need to know about it.

My Evo isn't completely ready yet anyway, but I'll give you the gist of it. Built 2.4l 4g64, Apexi Rx6 turbo kit (hopefully a p27 hotside is in my near future), really big cams, motec ecu and lots of other goodies. I put down 403 whp on a Mustang dyno on pump gas at only 20lbs of boost and I found a crack in my exhaust manifold, so next week when I get it back from Apexi we go race gas and high boost. With my setup should see easily 600+whp at 35+ lbs of boost, but I may need the bigger hotside to get the boost up there. I feel pretty confident that I can get to the low 10s and maybe 9s with full interior and a/c anyway that's my goal.

 

Jesus Padilla runs 9's, maybe even broke into the 8's by now not sure, with his 13B (started as a 20B, took the back rotor off). Non turbo, and carbed. 350 horsepower IIRC. FB, though.
