FWIW I see vacuum drop from a normal 16-17 to below 15 when hot after a days track work. Try it when the car is cold and it might come back up (down)...mine always does.
Nice to see you this weekend BTW

Damian,
Notice how he uses the word slipping. Coincidence? I think not. Its like driven on the track with flippen Batman I tell you

Fritz,

2:21 during the last session.
Told you I was hitting b/w 110-120 at big S.
I am sure I can do high 10s after BBK and right suspension setup. Also I backed off at the straights shifting at 7-7.5k knowing I would have trouble with brakes.
I am really glad to get the seats and harness

Jon

P.S. are you going to Carguys event in Aug?

Slippery? Or slipping? That is the question. I actually only found T1 and entry into oaktree to be on the slick side. So much so that I took a trip trhough the grass exiting T1 once Never done that before! So much gravel from the pits offline in T1 that if you went offline by even a foot or two grip went to zilch. Might also have something to do with the cords poking through on my front tires..No? BTW Fritz I have some nice footage of you overcooking T1
I haven't had a chance to see what kind of lap times I was running but I have been known to dip well into the 2 minute "teens"

Ramon it was nice to finally chat. Hope all goes well fixing the car and let the wife know that better to learn where the limits are as a novice (I presume she is a novice) than as an advanced student where the speeds and consequences are much higher.

Jon,
1:21 is pretty damn good I'll take a look at the Carguys event and see if I can make it.

I'm happy to hear your getting comfortable with the new seats and harness. Your car is really coming together nicely. Now get that BBK ASAP

Fritz,
Now now,..excuses excuses <G> As for my lap times I shall kept them close to the vest lest I embarrass myself but roughly mid 1:40's VIRN, high 2:teens VIR Full and mid 1:20s at SPmain and some mid :50's at the JC at SP w00t! Never driven VIRS though. Been once to Watkins Glen and Roebling Road too... fun tracks love to go back if they weren't so damn far.
Besides I'm not as crazy as you are and am still on my first FD

PS..my excuse for last weekend lest my times suck - corded front tires and front brake pads essentially down to the backing plates

Won't be long. I just picked up a mint CYM. D already built the motor. Wiring and tuning the Tec 3 within the month. It has a very nice HKS coil over suspension, T88H turbo, J-tech manifold, and 18" Volk GTC's which should stick pretty well. Although Im used to going in a straight line, I look foward to trying out the twisties. I have an Evo now too, so I'll be giving that a swing around the track too.

I wouldn't be the least bit embarressed by those times. Mid 1:20s at Summit is Awesome. Excuses who me

I'd like to try some more tracks as well but I doubt my poor old expedition could make it out of the State. Ramon sent me some footage of Watkins Glen and it looks like a really fun track.

I'm instructing next weekend with BMW and Tracquest so I should get lots of track time. I just hope I can get my poor car fully sorted by then.

Ernie,
I see 9s in the cym's future From what I gather EVOs are a blast on the road courses. Good luck with the new FD although with those mods and your mechanic I don't think you'll need it

Cmmon, Fritz and Crispy....you guys are both fast. The problem as I see it is that you both live on that track. Lets get Mazdadrivers to do an event at Watkins Glen, Mid Ohio or something else. VIR is awesome, but I'm sure variety will make you guys even faster.

Crispy, thanks for asking about the car. Minor paint work. My wife is cool with the whole incident. She learned alot by looking at the videos we have. The incident would have never happened if the instructor would have been more adamant about the correct line in turn #4. That spot is a common place where people go off. The two BMWs I believe also went off there.

In any case she had fun and she pretty much killer everyone in the D group. I suspect she will be running 2:30 flat or better next year.

Anyone have a clue if Shenandoah is still on ?

Ramon,
MidOhio is on my short list. WG was great but events there are so friggin expensive. I would love to go back mind you. It was funny when I went last to see me in my budget setup pull into the lot behind semi's pulling stackable transporter trailers. Guys coming to HPDE's with multiple $100k cars/toys...jeeez. It was nonetheless VERY fun to be on track with some of them. Can you tell I would like to go back?

Okay, let's plan it now. We'll do WG and MidOhio next spring. Anyone want to come along? I really hate to compare times because it at HPDE's you should concentrate on self improvement without the added pressure of competition. It does help though to see where you stand among your peers and set goals. This trip to VIR I saw a nice improvement and have resisted the temptation to improve times by turning up the boost. My total lap times were frustrated by traffic on most every occasion, but piecing together some fast segments I was in the 2:18's.

I'm not the least bit competitive

Mark,
When I saw you driving up the esses I knew you were cracking the wip a little harder. Seriously your driving jumped to another level from the previous event.

I'll see you ****'s at the next event and bring your good tires, pads, gasoline, most tricked out performance enhanced beast you can find cause....(big deep breath).....ahh excuse me I forgot myself there for a second. I mean it will be a great pleasure to broaden my knowledge of high speed driving in a safe enviroment with such a fun lovin group of fellas as you's guys.

Thanks Fritz, I started feeling pretty confident by Sunday and was driving pretty hard. I'm getting used to my new setup and new grip level so I can actually start to use it. I can now hang with you guys for at least a partial lap before waving you through.

Pretty funny. Keep the competitive spirits at "safe" VIR. Talking smack at Watkins Glen is a whole different story. Kinda interesting when a cement wall / armco is 1 - 2 ft away from track out on every damn turn.

R

BTW, since SHenadoah is off what is everyone else doing for September?

Ramon,
Two cars were totaled and one other one had some damage to the rear it's damn good thing we weren't at the Glen

I'm hoping to go to Summit and VIR as much as possible during the rest of the year. Let me know if your going to any event at either location.
Thanks,
Fritz

Went to VIR N with the BMW tarheel club and one day on the Full with Tracquest. Did the instructor orientation day on Friday and got 282 track miles. Car was running great but I forgot the video camera so I don't have any footage but was probably running some mid to low 1:40s based upon other peoples times. Temps where in the 90s and I never saw anything above 195. The Mazda comp nose with dual coolers and duct work is working great. I had a small oil leak that carried over from the Mazda event but its become progressively worse (about 1/2 quart each session) which was causing the rear to dance more than usual but you guys know I love throwing it around anyway so I made the most of it .

My car is currently at Brets (rp performance in manassas) getting the once over so I can go beat on it some more this weekend at Summit.
