Just added another miata one. One of the last sessions so the tires were loosing some stick and at one point the rears lock up going into 14 just before I turn in. Again the only problem I encountered with the car was the sticky rear brakes.

Shawn,
Yep replicas suck and its too bad we both had to learn the hard way If the blue car continues to run the way it is now I'll be having lots and lots of fun at the track. I'm planning to go to Summit on June 4th which I think is the next seat time day. My *** is telling me atleast 300 rwhp (rx6 single with 11lbs of boost 11 afr) and it only weighs around 2600lbs. Turbo is spooling great. IMO the rx6's are the perfect turbo for these cars

I got your PM and will bring the door up when I go to RP Performance in the next couple of weeks. It may be longer if the Bret doesn't have time to finish the engine.

OR: Just come to Charlottesville and work on my FD and take the door home then Its running fine but could use some help with the oil blow by (currently no catch can at all on it). Would also like to take some more weight out of it. Remove the airbags, ventilation, etc....

Are you coming to VIR June 19?

After 6 long months I finally got my track car back and went to Summit yesterday. The car did fine but there were some really slow cars so it was difficult trying to find any space. I think some people must of used Hertz race car rentals because their cars weren't working. I found a couple of open laps and was running 1:27 or 28s just cruising. I don't think I ever went over 135. Best recorded lap time previously was 1:27s going 145 on the front so the car is definitely stronger I just wasn't hammering it (engine has about 200 miles on it so I never took the rpms past 7k). The susp is not in the same league as the cym but I love driving it all the same. Can't wait for VIR full course in a couple of weeks

I'll upload some vids asap.

I'm probably going to the Upperville Grand Prix (horse thing not car) with the family on the 13th. If that changes I'll let you know.

Good luck with the race and please let me know when your free to work on the car

Just uploaded some vids from summit. Lots of ham fisted driving but I was sure having some fun until the rains came

Jon,
What's happening with your car? That thing was pulling really hard the last time I rode with you. I hope your getting some big brakes

The blue car is all set to go other than some small details. Check out the Summit videos. There's a long one and a short one.

See you in a couple of weeks.

Here's the list.
Cage is in already. Cage pics
Had to get a roofrack to carry tires/wheels.
Some race bushings are installed in front/rear
Recaro seats' being installed now
Getting GC AD coilover kit with 900#front/1000#rear, but not sure if they arrive on time for VIR.
If not, I will be running 750#front/500#rear on the Konis.
Also counting my pennies if I can afford BBK(probably stoptech) Maybe just front...hopefully both..

Are you going to stay in EconomyInn this time?

Jon

P.S. It seems SummitPoint is a great track! I think I would try SP sometime. It's almost the same distance to Mid-Ohio

Cage looks good. I guess bolting is fine and the welds were not needed?

With the new susp mods and the extra weight your going to put even more stress on those brakes so I highly recommend a BBK ASAP or you could just slow down

I'm staying at the Sleep Inn but I'm staying at the Economy Inn for the BMW and Tracquest events in early July.

work, work work....sucks sucks sucks.

Here's a quick question for you and any others that track their car frequently.

What is the FD's strength? Or I guess I should say, which of the following inspires more confidence? a shorter, slower, twistier track...or longer turns with more speed?

I just started downloading the first video in the list and damn that looks like so much fun! I can't wait to get my project car together so I can get into some amateur road racing... Ever since my buddy with a Eagle Talon TSI took me for a ride to 200 kph I've been seriously wanting a fast car of my own, and until then I'll enjoy your videos

The great thing about the FD is it truly has no weakness if its setup properly It dominated autocrosses for years and given the proper chance would have dominated at the track. Its a ten year old car and only a few modern day cars under 100k are faster even today and I'm talking stock for stock. I've ridden in lots of different cars and the only car that was more fun was a GT3 (the all out track model).

The GT3 is a lot of fun. I've done several Porsche Club events and they're pretty plentiful.

But I have to say that unless the driver is really good my RX7 will give the GT3 a run for its money. And if my RX7 had a good driver it would really be a close call!

I've left behind a GT2 and quite a few turbo porsches too... but they had drivers with more money than driving skill so I can't fairly access them. With the right drive they should suck my doors off... well the GT2 at least.

and fritz, I have the apexi turbo in my track car and agree with your statement above, ...excellent turbo for the car, especially for road track racing.

A well modded FD is great but no match for track specific GT3 (stripped to the bone with a cage etc..). If driven well (i'm talking instructors and racers) they run 2:06s and lower at VIR. A well driven stock FD 2:18s. Well driven z06 2:14s. FD with 50k plus in upgrades maybe 2:07s etc....The GT3 is basically a race car. If only had that sort of spare change

Yeah, I love the GT3. The GT3s I've seen at the track have been pretty much factory original. I can only imagine if they were stripped down and race prepped.

Damian,

I haven't done too much to my car. The powertrain is stock. M2 Stage 3 mods (exhaust, intercooler, intake, computer), ducted 13" brakes, Koni shocks, R1 parts, Koyo Radiator. It's a street/track car for me so nothing too wild for now (145K miles!). I'm pretty happy with how it is set up now so I don't expect to make many changes.

I'm going to replace all the suspension bushing this month. I just can't resist using my Mazda Competition account.
