Again with just a small crack you'll feel tons of vibration this isn't something that happens really fast. At first I thought I just had some bad hot spots or the pads were chunking and tearing up the rotor but as it became worse I decided it was a crack so I started to pay close attn to the pedal feel and brake as smooth as possible until the session ended.

My track car has cross drilled rotors but they are really heavy high temp rotors that are about 13.2 inches with brake ducts and nice pads. They have lots of spidering around each hole but they will still go a while before they crack all the way to the outer edge.
The rotors pictured are really cheap brembos which probably cost about 150 or so. I got these from Sonny when I sold him my AP kit. Notice the holes are drilled one on top of the other which is just asking for trouble. That along with the low grade iron is what caused the trouble. I've also used some plain brembos and those spider cracked like crazy in one day. The oem rotors are much better but not as good as going with the highest temp rotor that coleman or porterfield would send you for track use.
The best brakes I've used so far are AP racing. The Porsche 993 turbo setup that I currently have is fine but probably very heavy.
Basically brakes are not the place to save money when it comes to tracking your car. Get the best and it will save you lots of time, frustation, etc....and most importantly it might save your Buttock

yeah, what fritz said :-)
agreed on the rotors, the eom porsche cross drilled do hold up better than the other cheapos, but they also spider pretty easily from the cross drilled holes, they lasted a LOT longer once i added some good brake ducting.
my new floating rotors are from coleman so I am looking forward to see how much better they hold up.

Put up a new vid. I'm trying like crazy to catch this GT3 but just when I start getting close he pits. It's a really long vid but I needed to show just how hard I was trying and how frustrating the traffic can be and this is with open passing. What's really sad is he was probably driving at 7 or 8 10ths. He was like a carrot on a string
Fritz,
Those GT3's are quick... but without traffic, you had him.
You should travel to Watkins Glen sometime... i can't believe the machinery that shows up for events there. At the Trackmaster's I did, there were TWO GT3's, a 911tt, and two Ferrari challenge 360 racecars in my bloody intermediate run group. One of the instructoes rolled out for a few laps in the middle of the session in a craftsman truck.

Well, my little old grammy lives up there with a big house on a golf course, so i get free room, meals, and garage space while im there... but it would still be worth it if you paid for a hotel :-)

Currently my world revolves around Morgen and Erin. **** I'm lucky I get to go to the track as much as I do. There is no way I could leave for 3 or 4 days in a row righ now. Hopefully Morgen will get this knee thing sorted out and I can really take sometime to travel and enjoy some nice tracks. I really want to go to Barber and Watkins Glen.
How about this Fall we all go to Barber with Tracquest
Lot's of track time with open passing in the advanced group (atleast I think so I can't remember 100%) and they are a really laid back relaxed group.

After we break something we could maybe get a round of golf in! ha ha

hey, pick a track that I can make it to :-) i wanna come and follow you guys around too!!!
just watched the vid and you go FRITZ!!! that was fun to watch!!! that got me all pumped up for the season!!! NASA at RoadAmerica is my first event, and first run with all the changes (no ps, no abs, r85, different wing, et, et)...its gonna be interesting the first few sessions.
Dont forget to post your upcomign VIR dates so I can try to get there one of these times. I dont hink i could hack the drive but maybe if i team up with some local track dawgs and we rent a hauler and haul our cars there. :-)

The following two events could be ideal. Mazdadrivers has the 4.2 mile event over father's day weekend and I believe Tracquest has one over 4th of July. Entry fees for Tracquest are really high but supposidly you get lots of track time.

The car is basically stock with exhaust and coilovers. I might be able to squeeze a 2:18 out of her with some victos or hoosiers on stock wheels.
Have you driven it yet with the r85 on the street? If so what's your impression?
I'm going to VIR with the z-club around april 10th and with Audi in late april.

Mazda doesn't need me to instruct and once your accustomed to instructing it's difficult to pay for driving in a crowded group with no open passing.
I will be at VIR in April with the Z-club and later that month with Audi.
Hopefully we will have a chance to hook up later in the year. How's the license and or racing coming along?
Have fun this weekend

You should do the Tracquest event on the July 4th or the Chin Motorsports event which I think is in the Fall.
Just let me know when you can make the trip and I will definitely be there

The KB is running again
Just got back from VIR S with THSCC and had a really good time. Both of my students owned RX7s. One was a TII and the other an FD so I spent the entire time riding around in RX7s
I now have my old rebuilt trans from the blue car with the lower 5th gear in place and it sure is nice to have a quiet trans. Also had the petty bar removed and installed a passenger seat. I must have give 6 or 7 different people rides
Spent about 300.00 on race gas
During the time trial on Saturday I won my class and was 3rd fastest overall behind some Radicals. My best time was 1.169.
During the time trial on Sunday I don't know how I finished but my best time was a 1.164.
I'll post up some VIDs when I have a chance. It was really crowded so there should be some good track action. Still havn't viewed the vids but hoping for some good stuff
