Well, the pans are expected back from the machinist on Monday, as are the windage trays and baffles. But, there are all the little things to sort out and source. Drain plugs, o-rings, bolts, etc. And, we will need to fit and attach a pair of baffles to each windage tray. Not a lot, really, but you never know what stupid thing will cause you to miss a deadline... Right now, I'm anticipating the end of next week or Monday. That's a guess. I can give you a better estimate by the middle of next week. And, if Ryan gets back to me with permission to run the GB, I can start taking deposits immediately so you can hold your place in line. We only have 30 pans in the first batch and it's looking like they will be going pretty quick.

Yes, we can take credit cards. What we will do is just keep the CC number on file until the pans are ready to ship, then charge the full amount just before shipping. All I'm looking for is a way to sort out the serious people from the pretenders, and a CC number does that very well. Those paying with Paypal will be required to do the deposit (or make a full payment, if they wish).

I still haven't heard from Ryan about getting permission for the GB. I may have to call him.

The windage trays were a couple days late from the vendor, but they did turn out great:

Notice how the windage tray is recessed into the pan, so there is no problem with layering gaskets to sandwich it between the pan and the engine. The large o-ring is shown but the small one for the engine mount is not in the picture. Also, the windage tray in the photo does not yet have the vertical baffles installed...that's something we are working on fitting today. The pans themselves won't be back from the machinist until Friday, unfortunately (God forbid a vendor would ever make a deadline...that would be too convenient! ).

Also, here are a couple shots of the pan on an engine:

Still no word from Ryan regarding permission to run the GB.

I love it, but I have a serious question....
Will this bolt up to a Cosmo 13B-RE engine?? I know there are differences, but is the bolt pattern relatively the same? Can I get away with minor modifications to make it fit?

Well, the hold up is the permission for the Group Buy. I have not been able to reach Ryan. I don't want to circumvent the rules by holding a psuedo Group Buy in the "Group Buy Interest" section, setting a bad precedent. I like the idea of an open section to talk about GB proposals, so you don't need permission to even bring up the idea, but abusing it would certainly mean it would be closed down in short order.

When the GB gets the go-ahead, I will take deposits and/or full payments through the Pineapple Racing online store, so you have a secure connection for entering your credit card info. We also take Paypal in the store, so you will have options.

Stay tuned.

Good question. I believe you could get away with putting a pipe-plug in the engine mount hole and drilling one more oil pan bolt hole. We have a 13B-RE in the shop, so we could take a closer look if you are seriously interested.

You shouldn't need any sealer or gaskets if your engine is even reasonably flat, plate-to-plate. We will be the supplier of replacement o-rings, if needed.

BTW, the pan capacity is 5.75 US Quarts, which is just over 1 quart more than the stock pan (4.7 US Quarts).

Damn nice piece! I'm thinking that'd look good with my rebuild. Just make sure to let everyone know when the GB is a go!

For oil pan sealing, I'm guessing it would be best to apply a thin film of hylomar on the o-ring to provide the best sealing? Maybe I'm just over-thinking it.
BTW, Let us know if the pan can be used on the 13B-RE with some modifications, even if this includes drilling some new holes if necessary, as well as plugging up the holes where the engine mount went.

I'm not a big fan of Hylomar. That stuff is nasty to clean up, particularly when people use it inside the engine. That said, it would be fine to use in conjunction with the o-ring. Silicone sealer would also be okay. Not necessary, but perhaps a usefull extra precaution.

I'm not sure when I'll get around to checking that...not the highest priority on my to-do list, but I will do it as soon as the opportunity presents itself. Give me a day or two.

I don't see the holes for the oil level sensor nor the oil thermal unit. I would assume they are there.

Nope. The oil level sensor is not necessary. It's the functional equivalent to the "shift-up" light in the S4 cluster, intended for Suzie Soccermom. Check your oil level periodically and you will be fine. The thermal unit is also useless: sub-zero start for emissions only. Just disconnect it.

#@&%!!! I hate vendors! Our machinist claims his jig fixtures didn't work satisfactorily so he had to build new ones, forcing him to miss his deadline AGAIN. Now he says he won't have the pans done for "a couple more days" which -- at best -- means next Monday, if we are really lucky. And I'm not too sure we will be lucky, unless a miracle occurs and our machinist runs out of excuses and actually gets something done. The only good news is that he is a real craftsman, so when he does actually get around to doing the job it will at least be done right. I just hate his "artistic temperment" when it comes to deadlines.

Sorry, I had to let that out. Had I known the machining would take so long, I would have delayed any announcement about the product until they were in our hands. I know people are anxious but please be patient. I'm not trying to tease you and I won't take any deposits until I have a better idea of a ship date. Besides, I still have not heard back from Ryan about permission for the Group Buy. If it never comes, I will just turn the GB into an "introductory special" through our web site storefront and allow anyone to buy at that price, but I'd rather keep it as a perk for Forum members.

Blake, I grew tired of waiting for to hear back from Ryan after a month of waiting to start my group buy.
I just went ahead and did it anyways since I did make the effort to contact him. He posted in the thread right after I started it and then gave me approval then

Well, I've got his phone number but didn't really want to bother him too much over this until it's really ready to go. It just would have been nice to get a reply to one of the emails I sent. No big deal.

Sorry for the lack of updates. The pans are here (finally) and we only have the baffles to weld in, which I believe is set for Tuesday.

I have no further info on whether an officially sanctioned GB will proceed but, as I said before, if it falls through we will just make it an "introductory offer" available to anyone, through our web site.
