Rear Engine Flat-6 Vert RX7

The other night I parked my 1990 Rx7 TurboVert next to a 2003 Porsche 911 Carrera Turbo. The owner of that car came out of the store and saw me looking at his car, he said he liked mine, yada yada yada. Somewhere in the conversation he brought up the idea of turning the Rx7's trunk into an engine bay and putting a Porsche flat-6 in there. I figured the fit would work fine with a few mods(basically it'd be easier to buy a 911 vert and get a custom body-kit to make is look like an RX7), but told him i'd never seen it done and it'd be pretty expensive and involved (Auto-surgery anyone?) Anyway, just looking for other people's thoughts....Has anyone out there done this or any rear engine swap into a rex?

i don't understand why you'd want to put it in da butt. you already have a car with a perfectly good engine bay and the opportunity to get a 50/50 wt balance.

other than that, why would you want to make porsche look like an rx7?

i'm really confused here...

so was I when he first brought it up......i figured maybe he was just morbidly curious or really liked the sound of the flat6 engine..... only thing better i thought would be that there are more Porsche/VW specialists than Rotary Specialists(that i know of anyway)...........on the other hand, if simplicity and power are the game, it'd make more sence to go with a front mount V8(you can easily keep the 50/50 if you know what you're doing)......A Flat6 would be exotic and unique tho........hmmm.........

Nothing better than sticking an engine behind the rear wheels

Yea that's what happens when you don't think things through properly. You end up with a car that drives like ****! I'd tell him if he wants to try it, then he can go buy a Vert and give it a shot. Tell him to make sure it's an '88 though. I'd hate to see a nice S5 Vert go to waste like that...

Yeah, you might be right about handling concerning the f-6 swap into the the trunk of an Rx7.... but I sure hope you're not implying that Porsche 911 Carrera Turbo's handle like ****....

2005 Porsche 911 Carrera Turbo slalom=~71mph (2003 is about 69mph)
RX7 S5 TurboII Slalom=~67mph
RX7 S5 Convertible Slalom=~64mph

....and as far as stock handling, Porsche sadly has the market cornered with the Carrera GT coming in at almost 75mph.

that's just cause they're tail happy... you lift-off throttle and the car really wants to swap ends (same thing happens in my vw van - also rear engine)
