Project bridgeport-rx2

Well it's been awhile since I posted on the progress of my rx2. Thats because there has been no progress until today. Some of you may know that I was planning on going 20bt in my rx2. Well with the new kid and work being really slow I am going bridgeport 12a with a 48 Weber Ida and the old motor that I just pulled out today, I am going to streetport turbo blowthrough. I got the old motor and trans out today. I also made some custom solid motor mounts courtesy of ReSpeed specs. I started painting the engine bay flat black and ran out of time and paint, so tomorrow I will finish the painting. My new radiator and fuel pump and regulator should be here this coming week. I should have the car running in two weeks with the N/A bridgeport and I will keep you posted on the progress. I had a big setback regarding the trans. today. I went to take the driveshaft to r&r the motor and it would not come out. After 1hour of on my back hitting it with a punch and hammer it finally came out. Looks like the output shaft bearing siezed to the driveshaft flange. I think since I have everything out I am going to put a turbo 2 trans with a custom one piece driveshaft. This will set me back a week or two. Here are some pics. 1- new bridgeport motor just painted, 2. old stocker 12a that is getting a monster streetport, 3- rx2 side shot, 4 - 1/2 painted engine bay,5- custom solid motor mounts.

Solid motor mounts help transfer the power from the motor to the rear end. Mainly racers use these but since rotories have little vibration they can be used on the street as well. Only time will tell. I'll keep you posted on how they feel. Regarding the motor I don't know who built it. I bought it from a guy who bought it from a guy. You can clearly see new hylomar around the engine and you can see the port work from the intake and exhaust ports. Time will tell on the motor as well. For all I know it can be a porker. The apex seals look good though and I was able to see the motor running before I bought it. NO smoke and it romped. Idles like a v8 with a big duration camshaft.

DoLuck, this car is going to be a street/strip racer so I have all the interior out of the car, except the dash and one race seat, and the exterior paint is just as crappy- going to be a 4-door grocery getter sleeper- so I dont' know if it's 7stock material. In other words it's no show car. Should I bring it anyway, that's if I have it running?

Sure, this is directly from Billy at ReSpeed. Use 2.5" aluminum rod and cut it to a length of 1.360" and then drill a 3/8" hole in the center. That's it.

to reduce the amount of play in the car but with solid motor mounts the whole car tends to shake is all. At idle the car looks sick because it's rocking side to side do to the solid motor mounts.

Hey Alvaro, how's it going? Long time no see. Thanks for the compliments. I'm sad to see you sold your rx2, but it looks like it went to a good home. Your welcome to come by anytime. Just give me a call or pm me. Take it easy.

Thanks Rick, I will.

Man, I ran into another set back. I ordered a new radiator and it turns out someone stole the shipment of radiators from the seller that I am buying from. So that will set me back some.

Also, I need a lsd third member from a 81-83 gsl with the small axles to go into my rx2. Please if anyone knows where I can get one PM me. Thanks

Alright, got alot done this weekend. Stabbed the motor and trans. Mounted the new aluminum radiator and dual fans, exhaust, intake and carb and two new MSD blaster 2 vibration coils.

Things left to do. Get new oil cooler lines made, fabricate another throttle cable, get new driveshaft made, fabricate new trans. mount. Mount the new fuel pump and fuel pressure reg. Do some minor re-wiring and mount my guages. If I get all my parts I should be done in another weekend or two. Hoping to finish in time for sevenstock. Here's some pics.- Pic one is engine shot, pic two is the solid motor mounts, pic three, another engine shot.

Well, I finally figured out the lower radiator hose problem. I ended up cutting the water pump housing outlet about 1.5" and that allowed me to get the angle I needed for a hose. YES!

Tomorrow this beast is going to fire up. All I need is one foot of fuel line and make my throttle cable- which I can finish later- and she's ready to go. Going over to my Dad's house to weld up a trans mount and she'll be hitting the road. I'll get pics and video of first start up. Wish me luck.

Alright guys I fired it up! Started right up. Had a couple fuel leaks from the plugs in the pressure regulator. I went to unbolt the regulator from the firewall and remove the two allen screws for the bracket and I dropped my allen wrench and it fricken fell right into the hole in the top of the transmission for the throwout bearing linkage. I nearly **** myself. After cursing for about 10 minutes and trying to get it out with a magnet to no avail I removed my starter and it was laying right in the bottom=naturally. It idles great and has that awesome brap brap brap idle and it has great throttle response.

I shot a quick vid of the engine running and will post as soon as it finishes processing at Youtube. I still need to tune the carburator and it looks like my exhaust needs improvement. I have an old racing beat header two into one then 2.5" exhaust to glasspack and then 2.5 inch back to a magna flow style muffler. What kind of exhaust do you recommend for bridgeport N/A?

Things left to do- finish my throttle cable and make my trans. mount. That's it, hope you like, the vid will be up here as soon as I can.

Thanks,

Jarrett
