So why can't we make our 13B's direct injection?
Or.. why hasn't anyone after 10+ years?

The shear cost of a custom direct injection system and necessary controls was probably a major deterrent for anyboby but OEMs and high level racing teams.

With $5 gas though.. figure 10-20% better economy, that offsets it a LITTLE bit :P

Plus less chance of knock making your engine go boom, that's 2-4grand for a rebuild.

Direct Injection makes even more sense with turbo than NA.

I've always wondered why the renesis wasn't direct injection in the first place.

What are the guesses on the overall weight reduction on the 16x compared to the cast iron side housings on the 13b.

somewhere in one of those articles I think it said the 16x will be about 50 lbs lighter than a 13b.

lets hope for some nice porting area* ... looks very doubtful that mazda would employ FI in the 16x but you never know seeing more manufacturers release turbo variant engines may provoke the FI push for mazda. I think they will try to match nissan's 350z power to weight.

my friend from osaka has said that one of the japanese new car model articles had stated 16x would be production ready late 2010 he guesses the rx8 will get it.

Why did they insist on calling it an RX8 anyway?

You're thinking of the NSX. "RX" reputedly originated stood for "rotary export", but that was never official. I've read that Mazda recently decided the X stands for "sport". Dunno how that works, but whatever.
