I'm the one who got your car to pass DEQ last year. lol. I'm pretty sure you bought it after that. You ever do anything about the interior??? I remember the issue that was causing it not to pass was the 2gdfis (secound gen coil mod) was a hack job, after I rewired it (hope you like i worked hard to make it look nice) all problems went away. stong runner. had alot of low end for a 12A.

i didn't do anything to my fc, but i did sit around at the gas station tonight and watch Interpol do a little work to his s4 vert. tossed him a used tps and helped him scan for error codes as well. glad to see his vert is alive and on the road, it's pretty clean looking

You put that little section of wiring and the 3 fuses there on the strut pillar? I like it. I put the ignition back to stock when i was chasing the pinging issues. Must not have been pinging and knocking when you got to work on it. turns out the pulley was 90 degrees off, that kid didn't do any favors to that thing except dump lots of money into it :p I painted the damned blue plastics black, Got all the missing pieces for the interior also. no more ripped carpet either. The dash is still red, though. I want to go back to the Krupp's and show the kid how it's supposed to run. best 600 bucks i ever spent on a car i think. I'll never forget what he said either.

Me "that's spark knock - easy fix!"
Kid - "no it's not! that's the idler arm bushing! put it in and it'll go away, that's what the mechanic told me"

Painted my front calipers red. Looks alright. I got the paint that is brush on so you got brush strokes which sucks so I had to go over it a few times but didn't have to take the calipers off so that's a plus!

calipers are only two bolts dude, not really that much extra work. either way, got pics of the final product?

Yeah, that kid didn't know too much about it. I wasn't the mechanic btw. I just happen to know first gens pretty well, and took pity on the thing and got it to pass. Mark was, I don't see him diognosing a spark knock as a idler arm bushing. I do know that was in bad shape though. whole steering was fucked. depowered steering box, done wrong. bad bushings.

Huh. the distributer was off? I assume it was not like that when I worked on it. since we got it to pass and they checked the timing prior to any other work. they did alot of stuff and it was still failing bad. they added the smog pump, and had the carb rebuilt, put in a new cat, plumbed the split air pipe. ect. and it was all in the ghetto wiring the PO did to the ignition. I kept the 2gdfis in it. It does make a good differance helps on fuel economy, better low end. ect.

spent half hour on the stuck flywheel nut, gave up that ******* getting cut. I then took out the rear sway bar, and put in stainless brake lines. cleaned up the rear wheel wells a bit.

around 90 degrees off, actually.... the pulley seems to be on wrong.
I'm going to time it again - i want to make sure that i have it right, it just pings and knocks and misses if you time it to the marks. it's odd. I was told mark diagnosed it, and i was having a hard time believing he would do that, too so i figured it was some other mechanic.maybe it was just the kid talking out his ***. I even called mark about the pinging right after i got it and he had no idea it was doing it.... the steering's still jacked up a bit, but I'm just going to put a hose on the lines and fill it with fluid and call it good. no sense installing a pump.

also, where you located? i can stop by this weekend and maybe help you get that bolt off, eh?

I installed both sets of louvers today after trying the type for a window with no wiper, but i like the wiper style louvers better so i put them back on instead.

drove the fd. did some work on the grey car, got it in a state where i could fire it up... however the water pump was a dud, was leaking coolent out of the weep hole... and then the oil feed for the turbo i discovered has a hole in it. i got the new engine startexd, but could only run it for a couple minutes max, due to coolent leaking out of the water pump severly.... it was pretty late so i just called it a day... plan to paint another water pump and reinstall it next time im in town. i did fix the oil leak but id prefer to redo the line with better material for a long term solution.

then the intercoolern and intake piping will still need much addressing...

Finally got my FPR and fuel pressure gauge mounted and the feed lines run and I also finished the swaybar endlink bushings and finally got the right front lowering spring in and fixed the problems from the previous owner. Next up is to run the return line and to get a 3/8 NPT plug for the other port on the FPR. I'm also going to finish my battery cables now that I have a proper torch to solder the lugs on the cables.

Fixed a grounding issue and got it to run. She starts up every time now. Needs tuning though.

hah. Those little bugers always seem to break. I keep an extra on hand just incase. I know of a couple companies making aluminum ones for the FD, but none yet for the FC. Just a stock replacement. Maybe someday....
