LA puzzled!

I'm quite puzzled by about 90% underneath my hood. i'm a knowledgeable shadetree mechanic, and also one side of my family are pretty much all pro mechanics, so I get areound engines pretty well. There are thins attached that I don't think I 've seen before, and the Haynes Repair manual has illustrations that suck! So I will need some ideas and answers from quite a few of you I'm sure of it. I got it running, (unflooded, new fuel pump) now I need new shocks, which ones are best, quality, function and price. It was a racing car, but we plan to use as a daily driver and pamper it (most of the time).I also would like to find out what series it is, find out exactly which motor is in there ( first thing I need to know), best parts house (does autozone carry reputable parts, i.e. shocks, struts, engine parts, relays, and so on) and to find other members around my area. Lafayette, Louisiana. That is south I-10, cajun terittory. Also one of my recent problems is, I can let it warm up while idle, As I take off and come to a stop, the engine shuts off almost everytime. Got fresh gas, fuel pump, clean plugs and wires. What now? Thanks to all those who can welcome me.

Welcome, g4mertz. Being a Honda scene convert, I'm well versed in the inter workings of a piston engine.... but mostly clueless as to the function of the rotary. Heck, for the longest time, I thought the alternator in my old FC was the turbo. You can't be any more clueless than THAT!

need some info about the car, and pics if possible. what year is it? a whole lot of answers will depend on that question. im sure you'll catch on pretty quick one you get into it. ddoes it have any badges or anything relating to the trim package? as for parts, i doubt local stores will have many parts for it. i've been real happy with www.mazdatrix.com but there are quite a few good online stores. what direction are you going with your build? as for the stalling, if its carb'd, may be needing a carb re-build, or have a sticking choke?

LA not so puzzled anymore!

Well 1st of all, yeah sorry i left out some basic info. And I'm not sure how to make the file size of the pictures down to what this forum requires( I'll keep trying). Anyway, it is a 1988 13 B non turbo. There are no badges on it anywhere. The 2nd owner told me it had been wrecked, and he did a lot of body work on it, turned it into more of a competition car. I see lots of electrical connectors not being used, but also nothing near to plug into. So this might be for upgrades and Turbo models (guessing). I also thinkig that the BAC valve has gone bad. I started her up, I then pulled the connector off, and there was no rev. change. I Also put the timing light on L1, Dot was right on, Put it on T1 and the light wouldn't come on.(and trust me, there is spark there!) I can hook it up to L1-2 and T2, Light works on all but T3, Any ideas? But since there was no rev. change I think I'll just look for a used one right now since they seem to be really expensive new. Everybody have a wonderful day. Merci pour toute l'aide ! Vous parlera plus tard

welcome to the rotary lyfe. first off i've notice that 9/10 times that a bac valve is unpluged that u don't see a differences until u rev the engine and let it come back down.ur problem thuogh sounds more like a bad o2 sensor and since our s4's (86-88) did not come with a check engine light to show us we have a problem (most of the time when i get a cel its the o2 sensor, almost every car i have ever worked on) so i would recommend going to autozone and paying i think its 16.99 for a universal o2 sensor or 43.00 for the correct one.the universal one works just fine u judt have to add a female connector end on it.i would start there and see what happens.as for u getting spark from l1-l2 and t2 but not t1 could mean that, that individual coil pack is bad.both l1 and l2 use the same initial coil pack but t1 and t2 use separate coil packs, try pulling the wire off and checking it that way, just don't shock urself.good luck.

I do have spark all the way to the plug on T-1, my problem is the timing light won't flash, but will flash when connected to any other one. L1,2 & T-2

induction style Timing lights won't work "effectively" on the wires.
the clamp has to be Set Just riggghhht in order to read spark.
