bought a cheap but super clean standard 1996 RX7 Efini....

The second turbo doesnt seem to work, the car either climbs through the revs very slowly or coughs and splutters like theres too much fuel and no enough air?

The car boosts fine and pulls hard up until 4500 then all boost is lost?

The actuator that moves at 4.5k is working, reconnected a blown off hose with a one way valve under the pressure chamber at the front of the engine. The chamber has been tested and holds boost.

Any ideas?

Desperately need help! Thanks

Steve

Please somebody help?

Just found a hose disconnected, its under the pressure chamber, theres four feed coming off it, if u stand on the passenger side of the car accros the bonnet its the upper right nipple, its currently sucking? Any idea where it goes?

Looking on the diagrams i think it goes to the purge valve?

With all of those loose hoses I'll bet there are others you're not seeing. I would bite down and consider replacing all the hoses.

Do you have access to a vacuum test pump? If so you have the option of diagnosing the turbo system.

Go to the 3rd gen FAQ thread:
https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/faq-3rd-gen-other-useful-links-68640/

Scroll down to the T section for Turbo. Follow the links to the threads there. This is one of them:
http://www.autosportracetech.com/RX-...erOverview.htm
That will lead you to troubleshooting procedures so you can understand what you need to do.

Hang in there and read up on it. There are various things that could cause lack of secondary turbo and you need work through the steps.

Doesn't hurt to pray a little either. I'm having the same problem and my problem is not vacuum hoses or anything else on top of the motor. Starting to be convinced the turbo itself is my problem.

How much oil are you finding in the tubes leading out of the turbo?

There are vac hoses under the turbos as well. Also mechanical actuators and the throttle body butterfly in the Y pipe.

The only time its the turbos is when they smoke non stop. Every other time, it is the control system or wiring harness.

Read the FAQ and the link to the turbo troubleshooting and follow the troubleshooting procedures - or find a competent rotary specialist that is very familiar with the FD and have them fix it.

Baring in mind the cars been sat for 2 years, i now get boost but only very rarely, i was WOT in 4th and for a split second the second turbo came in, no smoke and pulled hard, changed to 5th.... nothing.

Then as i was coming back it decided to give me secondary in 1st too, then second once.... then nothing for the rest of the journey????

If its intermittent does that make it worse? or harder to diagnose? any clues? one garage mentioned the rotor tips are prone to seize?

Its probably not as Intermittent as you think. When are you going to go through the troubleshooting procedures? Writing about the problem doesn't help diagnose and fix the issue.

The "rotor tips" is probably a reference to apex seals. Don't take the car back to any garage that doesn't know the proper term. That means they are clueless about the car, how it works and will part you from massive amounts of money trying to learn about it on your dime. Find a rotary specialist somewhere in your area or diagnose the issue yourself.
