No crank no start after turning off 1st gen
No crank no start after turning off 1st gen
I have an 85’ 1st gen GS. A couple months ago I was leaving the house to go to work, scraping slightly when pulling out of my driveway and all of a sudden something feels and sounds off. I start to check everything while driving, accelerator works, brakes, clutch pedal, changing gears was normal as could be but I could feel almost like a very slight loose feeling in all of those things (could’ve been me just freaking out). I continue to drive until I can stop and pull over but then come to a small turn in the road and hear what almost sounds like a stick breaking off from under my car. Still drives fine but then pull over and turn it off and it hasn’t started since. As stated in the title, there’s no crank whatsoever, no clicking either, but lights do come on. Originally thought a starter wire got disconnected but I looked and it wasn’t. Anybody have any guesses? At this point i’m trying everything possible I miss her so much.
Have you checked for 12V at the starter for the main battery cable and the 12V start signal while cranking? Have you checked the fusible links by the battery and the fuses inside the cabin?
I also think there is a no-start flow chart in the factory service manual here: Foxed.ca

So, the starter is turning, or at least making noises, but the engine isn't spinning (cranking)? I'm guessing this has a manual trans. Can you turn the engine over with the car in neutral buy using the belts?

i know, but sometimes you can get bad parts. the starter motor can be fine and the solenoid is not, or vice-versa.
you can check the FSM (5-19 and 5-20). anything beyond that is showing you disassembly, in which case don't mess with it, just take it back for an exchange.
i think he's just asking it the engine will turn over by hand. with the car in neutral, you should be able to turn the engine by using the belts or you can put a 19 mm socket on the main pulley bolt and turn clockwise.

And yea I’d love to go get it tested and exchanged if needed but I noticed after I went to check that everything was connected properly, that the threads on the solenoid where the main wire connects are stripped so the nut will not come off.
