Friend's 1st Gen wont go!

My friend bought a 1st gen that sat for a long time b/c the owner couldnt get it started after they went on vacation. He has the car idling now but whenever he lets out the clutch it starts to go and once the clutch is out all the way it instantly stalls. What's causing this?

Tell him to learn to drive a 5 speed j/k

Seriously though, does it even start to roll? Or does it just not want to go ata ll, and then if you let the clutch all the way out it dies? Maybe theres something binding in the rear end or tranny...Brakes locked up? Can you roll the car freely?

I'd say old gas, or otherwise poor fuel supply if it was left sitting... sounds like it runs until it's put under a load.

Im with Manntis as opposed to the other solutions...I personally would like to FIX whats wrong with my car rather than get around it if possible...
