Thermowax piston not retracting, or throttle stop adjusted too high.

Would those be easy to fix or should I take it to a shop?

I don't know what you consider easy, but in my book...

Replacing thermowax: fairly easy
Adjusting throttle stop: very easy

I'm still pretty new to this type of ride so it would really help if you could explain what to do. Sorry.

ok im assumeing its a turbo2.... the screw is located behind/underneath the top mount IC. you can get to it with a long skinny flathead screwdriver right on the throttle arm.. its small. counter clockwise will slow the idle down, clockwise will increase. you can adjust it while the car is running, just be carefull of loose clothing etc around your belts and such....

Build yourself a test pipe out of pvc to make adjusting the stop screw or thermowax easier. Having the car running while setting them makes it that much easier. And adjust your TPS while you're in there.

A little goes a long way with the throttle stop. IIRC about 1/4 turn adjusted my idle speed by 300 RPM.

^^ He's right. Start small, very small. And be sure to actuate the throttle cable a few times in between adjustments. Helps make sure everything settles correctly after you move the screw. Sometimes all the gunk and aged springs might not respond immediately to the adjustment and it can be confusing trying to figure out why the throttle is way high or way low.
