to boost or not to boost?
i have a 90 gtu and i am debating weather or not to do a t2 swap or just rebuild the 13b n/a. i want to make it more suited to drifting or auto cross so any info would be much appreciated. i know that a n/a is quicker through corners. i also had a question about lsd's and welding the gears. is it a good route to go or should i just spend the money and get a true lsd either 1.5 or 2.
not true on the lsd in GTU, it did come on the GTUs, look for the lsd tag on the rear to know if you have the lsd or not,
as for porting read up on porting the 6ports, you would need the 4port turbo housings to port the exhaust, and you can only slightly enlarge the intake ports on the 6 port,
read, read, read, and read some more

cusco makes a really good 2 way lsd that would make the world of difference for drifting but keep in mind that 2 ways have are susposed to lock up during hard down shifts plus are kinda loud and hard hitting......if your car is a daily driver i wouldnt put it on

well the reason i say that is due to turbo lag and i tend to listen to what keiichi tsutchia has to say lol. yeah i love turbo power but i also love my na hahaha. who knows maybe ill find a gutted rx and swap my current engine into that after its rebuilt and just do the t2 swap to the gtu. alot of things are still up in the air.
I'll stay N/A for simple set up. A lot of turbo guy's running high power are having problems, specially on a hot and muggy day. Now once you are ready for higher power and torque look into 20b N/A set up, for reliability. I wish I can build a four rotor N/A, I just love the way it sound. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaAKO...eature=related

It really depends on your style of drivin dawg. N/A's are really easy to control on the turn in but lack in the exit and turbo are a lil sluggish in the entrance but excell in the exit. Now I can tell you, nuthin pisses me off puttin all this work in leavin someone in a corner just to have him on my *** again right after we exit.
There is no "dominant" rx-7, you have to discover your stlye.
As for lag, our cars really dont suffer from the same lag as other cars do.
If it comes down to Tsuchiya himself, see what he says about that blue FD Amemiya Rx7. That thing had 350hp and dominated when it got over 400hp its still was a very dominant car (eventually losing to the S2000 in a tough race) for being a turbo.
Driftin is really different between N/A, Supercharged to Turbo. You should hook up with some friends that have different aspirations and try em out before you make a solid decision, so you wont regret it.
All Im tryin to say is discover your style, and build on it. I hope this helps you dawg...

What a train wreck of a thread...
"Drifting or autocross". That is the first problem. In autocross, cars need to be set up to handle. In drifting, it is the opposite. So you need to make the decision first before money is wasted on the car...
If the NA drivetrain is in good shape, and the car runs well, then drive it as is for a while. I'm sure you will find that it is fun enough. Then maybe later, when you have some experience under your belt, the TII swap may be the way to go.

After driving a modded N/A for two years I know how fantastically fun they are to drive. Now I own a turbo 2 S5 that I have been driving for a couple of months. And wow the power makes a huge difference. I'd say if you are going to put any money into the car GET THE TURBO!!! It is absolutely not worth it at all to put thousands of dollars into a non turbo motor. Its almost stupid.
+1 for boost.
